LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library
It’s hard to believe it’s week 7 already, but here we are. We have had another busy week in the library and we have welcomed back Mrs Anne Dale this week who is filling in for Mrs Dolbel. She enjoyed meeting infants’ classes today and could pick a family resemblance before they even got through the door! For our new families, Mrs Dale was our very special Teacher Librarian for over twenty years until she retired in 2017. She had a lovely day with our students who made her feel very welcome and she enjoyed reading some new books to the library.
This past week we have been busy continuing reading ‘classic’ books with Kindergarten and enjoying ‘Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy’ by Lynley Dodd, ‘Mr Greedy’ by Roger Hargreaves with Stage One and drawing ‘Old Tom’ by Leigh Hobbs with Stage Two. We have also enjoyed learning more about idioms in Stage Three (inspired by Morris Gleitzman’s ‘Pizza Cake’) and knowing what ‘you’re on thin ice’, ‘when pigs fly’ and ‘Bob’s your uncle’ actually mean. So many students had heard them but actually didn’t know what they meant so it’s been great to hear the idioms some families use at home.
We have also changed our book displays this week and celebrated Dr Seuss’ birthday and International Women’s Day - there are so many great books to acknowledge these special days and our students have been enjoying borrowing these.
Scholastic Book Club
Thank you to all the families who have placed their order through the online Scholastic LOOP orders already, we really appreciate your help trialling this new system. If you are unable to place your order this way though, please send your orders into school and we can place them here. For secondary students who are interested in ordering online, please select your class as ‘Library’. BOOK CLUB ORDERS CLOSE WEDNESDAY, 13 MARCH 2019, so please ensure you have your order in by then. It usually takes one to two weeks from this date before we distribute them to classes. Thanks again for your support of this great program for our library.

Premier's Reading Challenge 2019
The PRC began last week and I am excited that we have 45 new students enrol for 2019. These are not all Kinder students and many older students have taken up the challenge to join. For students who have participated before, your username and password remain the same, and I have uploaded new students today. All participating students will receive this information over the next couple of days. Don’t forget for book lists and rules, visit the PRC website at:
