Busy times ahead at MCS

Term 4 is always busy, we prepare ourselves, yet I am always surprised at how much happens at this time of year.

Over the last two weeks we have had a visit from the very talented Brad Cooper who delivered workshops to our K-6 students in all things vocal, especially opera.

We had a huge turnout for Grandparents Day and it was pure joy to see the interactions taking place.

This Friday we have two of our teachers presenting at a Stem Conference. They have been recognised not only by the Stem Academy as innovative practitioners, but also by local teachers for sharing practical lessons, that other schools can pick up and run in their own contexts.

Currently our students are in the thick of HSC examinations and it is a timely reminder to ask “Are you ok?” Our young people put themselves under so much pressure and are still developing an understanding of perspective and resilience. Please make sure you reach out if you are concerned for anyone during this time.

Our Years 7,8 & 9 students are busy preparing for their end of year exams, and as we continue through the last term of 2019, we look forward to the upcoming Multicultural Festival in week 7, an exciting excursion for our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students and Learn to Swim.

Central West leadership Day

On Tuesday, I accompanied our students to the Central West Leadership Day at Kelso High School. Mr Tony Keen organised representatives from the SRC, Junior AECG and Captains and Vice- Captains to attend a fabulous day, designed to up-skill students with leadership roles in schools in our area. The day kicked off with Mr John Coutis as the Key Note speaker. John addressed the students about resiliency and leadership and this was followed by a series of workshops, designed to improve the skills of the students. The afternoon session was a fabulous opportunity to discuss with the leadership team, the improvements that they would like to see occur at the school. As a result of these discussions, we have already begun working towards short and long terms goals and it was the perfect opportunity to consult with our students in the Secondary, in terms of planning for 2020. Thanks to all the students who contributed on the day, I look forward to more opportunities to work with this group and beyond in 2020. Thank you Mr Keen for facilitating the day and driving the bus.

Sporting successes

Maggie Kirby and Phoebe Lyons  are off to State Athletics  and next week our PSSA Softball team will be travelling away to Wee Waa for the Regional Finals, demonstrating once again that our students are outstanding sports people.

It is with great pride that I share with you news that Heidi Townsend has received a Blue Award. This is a real achievement in recognition that for four years in a row, she has represented the Western School Sport Association in the sport of Hockey. Not only was she recognised for her inclusion in the State Team, but received a glowing report for her leadership, dedication, teamwork and determination. On behalf of all of our school community I extend our congratulations.
