Prep News
On Wednesday the 31st of May and 7th June, preps had the privilege of learning about fire safety from our local fire brigade. This educational program helps children develop a basic understanding of fire safety and to view firefighters as community helpers. In the first session, the firefighters taught students about safe and unsafe fires and the procedure in case of a fire at their home (crawl down low and go, go, go). They were asked to speak with their families to work out a “Safe Meeting Place” for if there is ever a fire at home.
On the fire brigade’s second visit all of the prep students were able to see what it was like inside a real fire truck and got to spray water from the hose (the grass at the local park was looking particularly green that day!). The students wrote stories about their time with the firemen, and they are still talking about it! Make sure to have a safe meeting place set up with your families.

Year 3/4 Soiree
There was a great amount of excitement in the air last Monday week when Year 3 & 4 held their annual concert at Glen Eira Secondary College, Performing Arts Centre.
The concert theme was outer space and each grade performed a wonderful array of songs and dances relating to asteroids, meteors, scientists, the moon, and the especially popular… Big Bang!
Some students shared their reflections of the night:
"The best part of the concert was the Big Bang because I did not have to sing the whole song. I loved the part when we sang, S.P.A.C.E. Space is where I got to be." - Nathan
"When I looked into the audience all I could see was my Mum laughing so hard. She just kept laughing and laughing. We had a really fun night!" - Lachlan
"On the night of the concert I felt really nervous and excited. Once the song, S.P.A.C.E. was done, I felt confident but still a tiny bit nervous. My class song was Moon Dance. After the next class’ song finished, I had to do Stand Up Comet act. I really liked the concert. My whole family was there." - Raphael
"After my grade’s song I looked up and I could see my Dad winding his arms and yelling, “Great job!”. - George

Regional Cross Country
On Monday 19th June at Ballam Park, Ormond’s highest placed cross-country runner, Caitlin L, competed in the Southern Metropolitan Regional Cross-Country competition. She had to qualified through School, District and Division competitions to compete.
Caitin competed against the best runners from Beachside, Cardinia, Greater Dandenong, Kingston Casey – North & South and the Peninsula – North & South. The top 12 place getters went on to the SSV State Championships.
After a fast & gruelling 3km, Caitlin finished 36th in a field of over 60 of Victoria’s best cross-country athletes. An amazing effort Caitlin, you’ve made Ormond proud!
Girls Soccer Gala
On Thursday 22nd June, Ormond sent 2 girls’ soccer teams to the District Soccer Day at Bailey Reserve for a fantastic day of competition. There were 8 all-girl soccer teams competing. The competition demonstrated the high level of soccer skills and game strategy amongst the girls in our local district schools.
Ormond Gold’s team work was solid. Our strong defence, talented strikers and the strong passing by the midfield players made the game hard for the opposing teams. Ormond Gold won 2 and drew 2 games, placing them 3rd overall. Many thanks to Duncan Powell who volunteered his time on the day to coach Ormond Gold.
Ormond Green, our B team, played against tough competition all day and improved every game finishing with a draw. They showed resilience and determination in their back-to-back games and fought each game to the end. An inspiring effort by every member of the team!
Go Ormond!
