Highlights in Performing Arts

Here's what's been happening in Drama for our younger students of the school!

Argus Community

The Argus community have enjoyed participating in a range of drama activities to improve their confidence and creativity. A highlight from this unit has been when students created a scene using a picture as a visual stimulus and the audience had to guess what they were doing. The activities included gardening, being hairdressers, having a picnic and more. Students collaborated in small groups to interpret the picture using their imagination and communicated to the class their characters using their voice, movement and facial expression.

Xenica Community

The Xenica community have also enjoyed collaborating with others to role-play drama in the space and present scenes to the class. A highlight from this unit has been when students worked together to interpret and recreate nursery rhymes such as, 'The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe'. They shared their ideas in small groups to develop their role-play and successfully demonstrated their characters using improvised dialogue and utilising narrators to tell the story. Students experimented with changing their voice, movements and facial expression to entertain the audience. Another highlight has been watching the students demonstrate an understanding of 'transformation of object', where students use improvisation to change a simple object into something it isn’t, such as a scarf becoming a microphone or a tooth brush!
