2020 School Year

Commencement and Expectations

The 2020 school year will commence on Friday, January 31 at 8.30 am. Acknowledging it is an administration day with no formal classes, it does serve a crucial function in ensuring that the first term, and indeed the school year, gets off to a smooth start.

On the day there will be a full school assembly, time in homerooms and houses, school photographs, and a rehearsal for Music Festival.  It is often a time of excitement and joy, reconnecting after the summer and a distinct enthusiasm for the year ahead.  As a school, our intention is to capitalise on this and support the girls as they flourish over the calendar year.

In light of this, the importance of coming back to school in a manner that reflects our values as a school cannot be overstated. Expectations around uniform and appearance are made clear below and in separate written communications. We ask that all students are both aware of, and abide by, these regulations.  Failure to do so will have consequences, with the distinct possibility that some students do not get their photos taken.  We recognise that this is not the way in which we would like any student to start the year; giving ample notice about our expectations should ensure that all girls return to school ready to focus on their learning.

Uniform and Appearance

Summer Uniform – Terms 1 and 4 only

  • College blazer
  • College summer dress – top of knee length
  • College jumper – must not be worn as an outer garment to and from school
  • Plain white socks – must be worn clearly above ankle
  • Black lace-up shoes
  • College backpack only

The College uniform should enhance good grooming and project school spirit.

  • Uniform should be neat, tidy and all items clearly labelled with the student’s name.
  • Summer, Winter and Sports uniforms are not to be interchanged.
  • The blazer will be required to be worn on official College occasions.
  • The College blazer must always be worn outside school with the winter uniform.
  • When students are wearing the summer uniform, the blazer need not be worn travelling to and from school provided the school jumper is also not worn.
  • Shoes are to be clean at all times.
  • Non-school badges are not to be worn.
  • No tattoos will be accepted.
  • Hoodies from extra-curricular activities, such as the ski camp, College Musical etc are not to be worn with the school uniform
  • Year 12 Jumpers may be worn in accordance with the guidelines drawn up prior to their distribution

Hair

  • Hair must be tied back.
  • Hair accessories may be house colours or white only.
  • Hair must be of natural colour appearance - extreme colouring or styles will not be permitted.

Jewellery

  • Students are permitted to wear one small gold or silver chain with a cross or religious symbol. The chain should be long enough so it cannot be seen.

Piercings

  • Students are permitted to wear two plain metal sleepers or studs in each ear.
  • Students are permitted to wear clear/skin coloured plastic studs for nose piercings. Students are advised not to get nose piercings where a metal stud is required as they will be asked to remove it.

Make-up/Nails

  • Coloured nails are not permitted.
  • Nail length should be appropriate for participation in practical activities to ensure safety.
  • Make up, including eyelash extensions, are to be natural in appearance.
  • Excessive fake tan is not permitted.

Timetable

Coupled with these expectations, there are some changes to the school timetable.  Positive Education sessions will no longer be held on a Wednesday afternoon each week.  They will fall once a fortnight for a whole period.  These periods form part of the whole school program and are not optional; we see the change we have made as ensuring that they are far more beneficial.  We look forward to working with the girls and supporting their growth, particularly in the social-emotional domain, throughout 2020.
