Since launching in 2007, the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program has attracted over 9000 students from more than 500 participating schools. The inspiration for and namesake of the program, Professor Kwong Lee Dow, is a former University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor, a distinguished education scholar and a contributor to curriculum reforms internationally. He plays an active role in supporting our Young Scholars.
Recipients of the program get a taste of university life, the chance to meet and connect with other students, the opportunity to develop their leadership and community involvement skills, and access to University of Melbourne resources, academics and events.
Congratulations to the recipient of the 2019 Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program, Tia Bunde.
The ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award recognises a student who has demonstrated leadership and teamwork within both the school and the broader community, and who displays strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, that are integral to Australian society.
The establishment of the ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award is an important initiative by the Australian Government, designed to encourage senior students, tomorrow’s leaders, to actively participate in the life of their school and local community.
The Year 10 recipient of this award this year has distinguished herself in a range of ways. It recognises her leadership in so many areas of Presentation life as she has been involved in countless College events and is a very proud Presentation woman.
Congratulations to Chelsea Le Hunt.
An engaging program was developed for the final week of classes for Years 7 and 8 students. On Monday, 2 and Wednesday, 4 December, the students engaged in the ‘Melbourne Project’. They were challenged to create a museum display based on their selected focus area. A range of very interesting and engaging museum displays were created. The upstairs classrooms in the Rahilly building were transformed into a museum space and teachers and parents enjoyed walking through these displays on the Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to all the girls for immersing themselves in this project and for the creativity they showed in their museum displays.
Semester 2 reports will be available on the portal from the week beginning Monday, 16 December. We encourage parents to read the Semester 2 report in conjunction with the comments provided on the portal for assessment tasks.
Edrolo has been book-listed for some senior subjects in 2020. This is a compulsory resource for students to purchase and it is expected that this resource is purchased if it is book-listed for a particular subject that your daughter is studying.
As we finish the 2019 school year at PCW, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the many groups and individuals who continue to support this wonderful College. It has been my privilege to lead the Learning and Teaching group for the past three years and to continue to promote all aspects of learning and teaching across the College. I thank this group for all the work they do to ensure our curriculum offerings are contemporary and engage our students. We are indeed blessed to have a very talented and dedicated staff who have worked hard throughout the year in designing curriculum, completing assessments and reporting, and organising a range of experiences both within and outside of the classroom to ensure our girls receive the best education.
I congratulate our students for their achievements throughout the year and for their commitment to their studies. I leave PCW at the end of this year with many fond memories of my time here. I remember saying to the new Year 7 parents when I presented to them in my first year at the College how PCW was a school on my radar where I wanted to work. I am so thrilled I had the opportunity to work at this amazing school. The sense of community PCW has is something I will never forget. I extend my very best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable festive season and new year. In the busyness of our world, I pray there is peace and calm for you over the summer holiday break and I hope this is a time to spend with family and friends, and a time to relax and re-energise. God bless.
