9/10 Agriculture Students - Lamb Marking

A group of students studying Agriculture in middle years’ Science spent a day at Knockshinnoch farm marking lambs. This experience was part of their course looking at the different types of sheep that are farmed in Australia and management strategies used on a working farm. All students took part in all aspects of lamb marking, from picking up the lambs and putting them in the cradle, to inoculations, ear tagging and putting rubber rings on the lambs’ tails and testicles. The students were also able to see the benefits of improved pastures and how this affected ewe condition and therefore growth rates in lambs.

All the students showed an excellent work ethic and were very keen to have a go at all the different jobs associated with lamb marking. Their ability to work as a team was exceptional and the owner of the farm said he would have them back any time. He was very impressed!
