Across the Principal's Desk

The Hon. Jaala Pulford, Victorian Legislative Council MP, visited our school on Wednesday morning to conduct an official opening of our new buildings and facilities. It was a pleasure to take Minister Pulford on a tour around our Science, ICT, Technology and General Classrooms with our budding school leaders and members of our local community. She was very impressed with her experience in our school.

We’re extremely fortunate to have such amazing buildings and facilities in our rural setting. To have such quality facilities, combined with the quality teaching and learning right through from Early Childhood to Primary and Secondary is a huge advantage for our local community – this was recognised and acknowledged by Minister Pulford.

We are very appreciative of the funding we received from the State Government to rebuild half of our school and bring our facilities up to standard – in fact the facilities we have at our school are outstanding and every visitor that I have walked around the school in recent months has made extremely positive comments about our school – not only the buildings but also the positive ‘feel’ or ‘culture’ that we have – we are a very welcoming school!

I would like to briefly acknowledge some of the key players involved in bring the building process to fruition. Our School Council has been proactive and supportive throughout – particularly Colin Gerrard and Tim Carland as Presidents throughout the building preparation and construction phase. I’d also like to acknowledge Michael O’Connor and the role he played, particularly when we were desperately seeking to attain the required funding. Our architects, Morton Dunn, were terrific to work with and produced a fantastic outcome for our school and community – working with Envico, the contractors, to complete the construction. Importantly, our staff and students patiently and cooperatively continued with the teaching and learning right throughout – they were amazing!

We will continue to complete the refurbishment of our existing areas of the school over the remainder of the year. We are planning to have a community-oriented opening of our school later this year or the beginning of next year, which may take the form of an opening day with a BBQ where we can invite everyone to come along and celebrate the incredible learning facilities we have for our students to engage with and succeed in their education.

It is the final week of Term Three – it is amazing how quickly time has flown this year! Good luck to our VCE students who need to be studying hard in preparation for finishing off their year with exams but at the same time finding a few moments for relaxation and fun. I wish everyone a safe, enjoyable and productive two week break!
