Acting Principal's Report

Ms Satchwell’s Study Leave

In 2018, Ms Satchwell was announced at the Victorian Education Excellence Awards (VEEA) as Primary Principal of the Year.  The VEEA are the most prestigious education industry awards in Victoria and to be shortlisted, let alone to win, is an amazing achievement.  Ms Satchwell is also the first person to win both the Primary School Principal Award and the Lindsay Thompson Award, at two different ceremonies.  The Lindsay Thompson award is the ‘crème de la crème’ in terms of awards in education and to win both of these awards demonstrates how lucky we are to have a Principal like Jane - she is pretty special.  As part of being a recipient of this award, Ms Satchwell was given an opportunity to interview and visit other schools with outstanding leaders in both Singapore and the USA.  Until the remainder of this term, I will be assuming the Acting Principal role.  Sharing my role as Acting Assistant Principal during this time, will be Travis Stevenson and Bec Garrow.

Welcome Rebecca Williams - New 5/6 Teacher

We would like to welcome Miss Rebecca Williams to our Chelsea Heights Community.  Miss Williams was the successful applicant for Paul Duncan’s role whilst Paul has taken leave to pursue a Physical Education position at Langwarrin Primary School.  Miss Williams has had a number of years' experience in schools in the Western Suburbs.  Welcome Bec!

Twilight Fete

What an amazing event!  You couldn’t have asked for better weather and this resulted in a huge turn out!  Ms Satchwell and I were the ticket booth "Queens" and we were run off our feet throughout the day.  I challenge anyone who thinks they know their six times tables as well as I do - particularly now!

I would like to acknowledge the members of the Parents and Friends Association (in no particular order): Mandy, Caline, Emma, Andrea, Jessica, Nadine, Bernadette, Leanne, Nicole, Sally, Bree, Elda, Sue, Greg, Bec, Ben, Steve, Alex, Jess, Suzie and Natasha (apologies to anyone I've missed).  The hours leading up to the event were enormous.  The time and effort put in by our parent community to contribute to the success of our major fundraiser for the year, is very much appreciated.

The funds from this event will contribute to providing new air conditioning units for the major works that will commence in the middle of this year.  The main school building will be revamped and will look absolutely outstanding with modernised classrooms.  It has been very interesting to be involved in the planning process although disappointing to learn that air conditioning does not come with the rebuild whilst heating does - it raises many questions.  Given this shortfall, Jane approached the PFA and School Council and asked whether we could use the funds we raise from the Fete, to contribute to installing split systems in the new building, to which they agreed.

On behalf of Jane and the School Community I would like to thank again the amazing Fete team, the teachers (particularly Megan Foley as Parent Participation Leader) and all the parents who volunteered their time last Saturday.  We really appreciate it and can’t thank you all enough.

Miss Pia Licciardo, Acting Principal
