Student Leaders

SUPERHERO DAY

This week, the Year 6 Student Leaders ran the hugely successful Superhero Day. It was an outstanding success! Staff and students embraced the event, coming to school dressed as superheroes and participating in lunchtime activities. Superhero Day ended with a whole school assembly, in which the leaders acknowledged everyone that dressed up and who donated to this worthy cause.

The two day event raised $800, which will go towards the purchase of some Supertees, superhero themed hospital gowns, for sick children. More importantly, the Student Leaders’ Positive Change Project raised awareness of the significance of pretend play for sick children. Research shows that pretend play, like being a superhero, helps a child put psychological distance between themselves and the problem at hand. It’s known as ‘The Batman Effect’.

Next month, some of the Student Leaders will be visiting the Monash Children’s Hospital to present a cheque. They also will also have a tour of the children’s ward and the school there, meeting some of the young patients.

Thank you to everyone that made Superhero Day possible! The Student Leaders worked extremely hard to create and design a range of  ‘superhero themed’ activities for students to participate in, as well as running the whole school assembly. A special mention to Mr Levey and Miss Baxter for facilitating this positive change project.
