Chess Tournament - State Final

Victorian Champions

On Tuesday 15th October, the Girls’ Chess State Finals competition was held at St. Catherine’s School in Toorak where 17 schools competed in a close competition.  The competition was so tight, close and intense, that after seven rounds of chess Glendal Primary School and Mount View were tied on 27 points! The organisers then undertook a count-back system where the final placings of the top five girls were added together in order to see which school had the lowest score.  Even though Glendal had both first and second in the individual competition, Mount View’s team was more consistent across the board and were finally declared the winners of the state competition!

Congratulations to the entire team who supported each other throughout the day with encouragement and advice.  This was indeed a full team effort.

The students who represented the school in the state finals were :

Melody T Jessica P Aparna M Chloe C Prisha R

Reiko W Emily D Anushka V Emily W Jahnavi M

As a result of winning the state title, Melody, Jessica, Aparna, Prisha and Chloe will now compete in the 2019 Australian School Teams Championship which will be held in Canberra on 30th November and 1st December.  Best wishes girls!!
