Dear Parents and Carers

The last couple of weeks have been action packed with the School Fair and State Election taking place.

The Fair was another huge success, raising $100,137 for our school!  Just as important, the feedback from students and parents was, that despite the cooler weather, the Fair provided lots of laughs, smiles and great fun for those that attended.  This year's funds have been allocated to upgrading the audio visual system in the MPR and installing an additional entry/exit point in this area.  Next year will also see the completion of the Prep Courtyard upgrade, utilising the funds raised from the 2017 Fair.

Thank you to Kate Lovett, our Fair Coordinator, for her commitment to ensuring the Fair continues to develop to meet the needs of our community.  It is a huge role and one she does with integrity and great thought.  Thank you also to the Fair committee, stall holder coordinators and to all the people who were able to volunteer on the day.  This year we farewell Peta Cleary, Ross Opie and Nick Dal Sasso from the Fair committee so I would like to thank them for their contributions over many years.  A special mention to Mikela Dalrymple for her role in making the Silent Auction the success it has been for many years.  This is Mikela's last year at the school and her energy will be sorely missed.

SAMBELL LODGE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Prior to the State Election on 24th November, James Merlino MP and Richard Wynne MP, announced the following election commitment to Clifton Hill Primary School,

"Clifton Hill families will get the world-class local school their children deserve, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver a major expansion to Clifton Hill Primary School. Labor will invest $12.8 million to construct new facilities as part of an expanded school to accommodate growing enrolments.  This builds on the land acquisition funding already provided by the Andrews Labor Government. This will enable the school to accommodate more students and ensure that current students have enough space to play outside. This will also assist in alleviating enrolment pressures for surrounding schools."

The School Council has worked tirelessly for many years to secure this funding to ensure that our school infrastructure can match the growth of the population in our area.  We are looking forward to working with the State government to create learning spaces that are innovative and meet the learning needs of our students.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of Richard Wynne MP, who has supported Clifton Hill Primary School over many years, and worked alongside the School Council to ensure the needs of our students are met through the continual improvement of our school facilities.

A NEW PLAYGROUND FOR ALL

We are also delighted to announce the Victorian State Government is providing us with the $200k grant to build a new playground in the school grounds that all children can enjoy together.

In order to create something for everyone we will be running community consultation workshops with teachers, students, parents and community groups very early next year.

One of our school values is inclusion and we will live this by creating a playground that will offer a variety of activities for all children, and the playground will be open to everyone in the local community out of school hours.

We look forward to working with you all early next year to create not just a beautiful playground for everyone but also a Masterplan for the school grounds for future works.

We would like to again thank and congratulate all the parents and teachers involved in the grant application and who voted for the project.

Classroom Teachers 2019

Next week we will finalise classroom teacher allocations for 2019 and this information will be sent out via Compass.  Class composition for 2019 is close to being finalised and class lists will be sent home as previously communicated.

Karen McB's Corner

Did you know having Karen, our school nurse, working here at CHPS benefits everyone in the school community, not just the kids who get sick or hurt?

Did you know having Karen….

  • saves Megan an hour, our wonderful teachers 20 mins and Di and Nia 45 mins every day! This means your child’s teacher is free to concentrate on teaching and not distracted dealing with sick or injured children
  • halves the number of kids sent home early because of injuries and illnesses, meaning fewer interruptions for everyone in the classroom…and fewer parents being called in to collect their kids
  • keeps everyone healthier and reduces the number of days of school missed by all kids from illness, but especially kids with chronic illnesses such as asthma and diabetes, so your child (and their teacher) is healthy and in the classroom ready to learn

Every day Karen is here at school ready to tend to knocked heads, scraped knees, queasy tummies, blood noses, split chins, fevers, asthma attacks, broken bones and all the “lurgies” kids come down with. Thanks Karen for all you do for our CHPS community.
