Digital Learning Programs at School

Every year students across the school gain access to various online teaching and learning platforms. These programs are accessible both at school and at home with students having individual login details. These programs are used during school to support learning activities and often are programmed by teachers so that specific activities can be accessed at home to practise skills and consolidate knowledge. The following table indicates the programs available to students.

Reading Eggs/ Reading Eggspress

Reading Eggs is explicitly created to support foundational literacy skills of students in years Prep – 2. The engaging layout allows students to learn letter sounds, blends and grammar while having access to a broad range of texts. Reading Eggspress is the extension of Reading Eggs focussing on years 3 -6. The activities focus on spelling, writing, grammar and comprehension skills with the added engagement of live literacy based games.

The attached brochure below gives a more detailed description of what is available to students.

Mathletics

Mathletics is used as part of our mathematics program at school. Mathletics is a targeted, rewarding and captivating online learning resource, which is aligned to curriculum standards.

Your child has take-home access to Mathletics — they simply sign in with their Mathlerics username and password using any compatible computer or mobile device.

Teachers have access to a powerful reporting and administration suite which allows them to allocate and target specific activities to match learning skills and content being taught in class.

Literacy Pro

Literacy Pro is a program that has been running at Buninyong PS for quite a number of years. Our library has managed to accumulate around 2500 books that are closely linked to this program. The program is designed to assist students who are independent readers to find ‘Good Fit Books’ and help build comprehension skills and strategies. For the vast majority of the Lit Pro books in the library there is an online quiz for the students to take. This helps the teachers gather valuable data on how frequently students are reading and the level of understanding they have gained.

Smart Building and Living Expo.

This Sunday the Smart Building and Living Expo is being conducted down at Royal Park in Buninyong from 10- 3.30pm. Once again the expo will be supported by the school with a children’s activity centre, which includes the Solar Boats the Energy Breakthrough bikes and a planting stall. We encourage as many families as possible to come along and support this event.

Our Learning Behaviour Posters

A huge thanks to Catriona Fox (Monty and Jacob’s mum) for all her hard work to develop our wonderful Learning Behaviour posters. These posters have been developed by our teaching staff to help students make the most of different learning structures.

They are broken into 3 elements:

Teacher Led learning: Learning sessions where the pace is controlled by the teacher.

Guided Learning:Where the teacher and student work closely together to undertake a task.

Student Led Learning: Learning sessions that students control the pace of and are responsible for their own decisions.

All classrooms will be using these posters to help reflect on learning and set goals for the future.

In the News

Our Story Dog program has been in the news this week with both Channel Ten and Win News conducting interviews with Jacqui, Jake, Olivia and of course Honey. This program started in 2019 as an extra opportunity for students in year 2 to improve reading confidence by reading to Honey and Jacqui. We have had some great results from this program and are currently in talks to secure a second Story dog for the Scotsburn campus.

Home Work – Specialist Edition

Every term in Week 5 we celebrate the importance of our specialist learning areas by providing special homework tasks that replace normal class homework. We ask students to think about and reflect on how learning a language, being fit and healthy, using our creativity skills and being musical plays an extremely important part in our upbringing.

All students will receive their homework on Friday in the form of an activity matrix. The idea is to complete at least 1 activity from each specialist area. Colour the activities you complete and bring back to discuss with your class mates next Thursday.
