Principal's Report

Meet and Greet

It was terrific to see so many parents take the opportunity to have a quick catch up with teachers last week.  If you were unable to make it, or need more time with your child’s teacher, feel free to make contact and organise an alternative time.  It’s always good to arrange a time that suits both parties for catch ups, as teachers won’t usually be available for more than a quick chat in the mornings as you are doing the drop off.

CONCERT PLANNING

Our Concert Team has its 1st official next Tuesday where we will be looking at our reflections from the 2018 concert to remind ourselves of key organisational issues.  We’ll also be considering a theme for this year’s concert.

A big thank you to Susie Brumby and Belinda Wardle who have joined the team representing parents across the school community.  We’d really like a few more parents to join this team, so please get in touch if you are keen.

End of Day Messages

We regularly receive messages from families regarding changes to end of school day arrangements for their children.  This usually relates to whether or not a child to get on a bus, who is picking them up or where they are to go after school.

It would be greatly appreciated if these messages could be delivered to office staff by 3:15pm or earlier, as the office gets very busy late in the school day and sometimes it can be difficult, at late notice, to get important messages to students. Thanks for your understanding with this matter.

School Bus Services

Our school has 3 country bus runs coordinated by Public Transport Victoria (PTV).  These travel to and from Mount Mercer, Yendon and Elaine.  Students who use these bus services are officially registered to do so.

We’re currently working through the process of meeting with all bus travellers to remind them of behaviour expectations on buses.  At this meeting the students will receive a Bus Travel Code of Conduct and it would be fabulous if you could take a moment to sit down and read it through with them.

Where there is space, an opportunity exists for students to use one of these buses in an ad hoc basis.  An example might be where a student is staying with another student who is a registered bus traveller.  In these instances, please complete an Ad Hoc Bus Travel permission form and have it back into the school at least 2 days before travel.  These forms can be collected from the general office.

If you have any questions regarding bus travel, please see myself or Mel in the office.

UNIFORM

A big thankyou to families for making sure your children are coming to school in full uniform.  As a result, the kids are looking great.  One of the reasons we have a uniform is to make life easy for parents.  That is, no arguments in the morning about what your child is wearing.

From time to time we have a handful of students wanting to wear what they feel is fashionable, rather than what complies with our uniform.  Typically these include:

  • Jeans – Jeans are not part of the uniform.  There are a few options for long pants, but jeans (including black jeans) is not one of them.
  • Shorts with logos – School shorts should be plain black.  Sports shorts which sometimes are very short or include white or coloured logos do not fit our uniform.
  • Coats – It is fine for students to wear a coat in very cold weather.  However the coat does not replace the school jumper.  If it’s cold enough to wear a coat, it’s cold enough to have a school jumper on underneath.

Parents are reminded that shoes worn to school should be black, although this does not apply to runners brought to school for PE.

Anything you can do to keep your child in full uniform is much appreciated.
