Semester One Reports

Due to this term’s challenging circumstances, many teachers have had to reschedule assessments, which means that the release of reports will be delayed by a couple of weeks.

Semester reports will be available to parents, in Compass, in the week beginning 10th August.

A reminder that the semester reports will include just the grades for assessed tasks. Specific comments that teachers have made on the Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) or School Assessed Coursework (SACs) completed by students during the semester, can be accessed in Compass Learning Tasks.

Semester One Awards

Sub-schools are gathering student nominations for Academic Excellence and Personal Best awards from their staff. Although a date has been allocated early in Term 3 to recognise student achievement across the school, we are unsure of the format of the awards assembly this semester. In previous years, we have been so grateful to have friends and families join in this celebration, however, due to the nature of the current climate, we will be unable to extend an invitation this year, unless of course, restrictions are lifted prior to the date. We hope that we can celebrate your children’s achievement together at the end of the year!

School Photos and Student ID Cards

Students who ordered school photos last term should have now received their photo packs. Families can still place orders by going to the Hikari website:   www.hikarieventsphotography.com.au

1. If you have the student’s personal code, sign up for an account with the code.  Once you verify the account, you’ll be able to view and purchase the photos!

2. If you already have an account, please login to your account. Click “Add Another Code” on the bottom left of the control menu and enter the personal code.  That’ll link this year’s photo to your account.

3. If you do not have your personal code, please email info@hikari.com.au

with the student’s full name and class to obtain assistance.

Compass ID cards have arrived. All students are expected to have their ID card at school to use for printing, photocopying, borrowing books/devices, and to register late arrival/early leave at the office kiosk. The card can also be used as identification for concession travel on public transport; it is not necessary to get a separate concession card. Senior students are required to bring this as photo ID to their examinations.

If your child was present for the school photo day last term and they have not been issued their ID card, they should collect it from the office by paying $10. Absent students will have their photo taken next term and will receive their ID card soon after.

Course and subject selection for 2021

The end of Semester 1 is also the beginning of the course and subject selection process for the following year. This is an important time for students to make key decisions regarding elective choices, VCE/VCAL, and subjects in the VCE program. Updated course handbooks will be uploaded into Compass next week. Students must engage in researching future pathways that are of interest, so that they can make informed choices.

This year, domain leaders will provide subject information to students via video recordings, which parents will also be able to access in Compass. The sub-school Course Information sessions scheduled for Tuesday, 21st July, will also be via video recordings. Details on the course selection process and course approval interviews will be forwarded early in Term 3.

VCE Top Performer

Congratulations to Sabrina Purdea, who is a winner of the 2020 VCE Premier’s Award! As a Year 11 student last year, Sabrina was nominated for her outstanding result in Unit 3/4 Romanian, which she completed through the Victorian School of Languages (VSL).

Winter uniform

Families are reminded that all students should be in full winter uniform. School ties must be worn and students are encouraged to wear plain white t-shirts under the school shirt for added warmth. Head scarfs, if worn, must be plain navy blue or white. Neck scarfs must also be navy blue; other coloured scarfs are not permitted. Thank you to all families for your continued support of the college uniform policy.

To assist families who cannot get to the uniform shop, students can purchase ties at the general office for $20.

The Sustainable Schoolshop option is also available to families to purchase second-hand uniform at discounted prices:

Thank you

Finally, I would like to sincerely thank all students, parents and staff for the exceptional way in which you have managed the challenges of the last two months! I also want to acknowledge the work of our ICT Team – Naseer, Arnold and Kevin – for their dedicated support, which assisted our learning community to thrive in difficult circumstances.

I am sure there will be further challenges as we move into Semester 2, however, I believe that we are in a very good position to cope with it all.
