The Year 10 Environmental Science had a Zoom incursion with Joanne Lewis, Establishment Manager, Heartwood Plantations on Friday 4 June.
Joanne is a forester who has worked in forest management and consulting in the public and private sectors in Queensland & Victoria. Joanne’s experience has centred on the establishment of eucalypt plantations for both timber production and the provision of ecosystem services. Joanne is currently the Plantation Establishment Manager for Heartwood Plantations, a small private forestry company based in Gippsland, which is focused on the production of high quality durable native timbers.

Robogals
The Robogals incursion was very educational. It combined learning how to program EB3 robots with having fun! I thoroughly enjoyed this because we even got to meet new girls. At the end of the activity we even had a samurai battle ( with our robots, of course ) which was my favourite.
Christina Koufomanolis - MK 3
Robogals was an exciting experience, I got to learn more about coding in a fun way. The highlight of the day was when we coded robots to sumo wrestle each other, I won one of the sumo wrestles with my partner and we got a badge, I got to know my partner more and I got to know some of the year 5’s and 6’s. Robogals is a highly recommended experience.

Vinnies Winter Appeal
Just a reminder to all families that Nazareth College is running our Winter Appeal-Bring a Bag donation, which was highlighted a few weeks ago. Donations have so far been slow, and lockdown certainly has not helped.
Vinnies are encouraging all students to please consider our homeless at this time, particularly with the onset of the Winter months ahead. Whether it be a bag of food/toiletries, or items to make a meal, every little bit helps.
As students begin to return to school, please pop that donation into your bags and deposit it into the donation bins set up in each House area. They can also be brought to the Resource Centre.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Pyjama Day
It should come as no surprise that a day of school dressed in warm and cosy pyjamas is a wonderful way to lift the spirits of any person, so after the return from online learning for our senior students, we promptly organised a Pyjama Day last Tuesday. Despite the cold and miserable weather, it was all smiles around the school throughout the day. From the oversized Oodies and dressing gowns, to the collection of stuffed animals accompanying many students to class, it was difficult not to enjoy the light-heartedness of the day. It was our goal to give students something to look forward to and to provide a break from the repetitive days, particularly during lockdown.
Thus, it is rather fitting that all proceeds, generously donated by everyone who chose to dress up, went towards the Beyond Blue Foundation. As Australia’s most well-known and visited mental health organisation, Beyond Blue has been a particularly valuable source of support during stressful times. Even with our lockdowns, Beyond Blue has implemented various Covid-safe support services, that can be accessed through their website, and we strongly encourage you to look through it if you are wanting support. In total, we raised $215.50, and we are very grateful to all students and staff who donated.
We are incredibly lucky to have been able to run this day especially during such unpredictable times, and we are particularly grateful to all staff who made this possible. We hope this day managed to lift some spirits of our students and staff at school, and to everyone still at home, we hope you’re enjoying the comfort of your pyjamas just as much.

Design & Technology
Students in Year 10 Design and Technologies took part in a Co2 Dragster race. Students were tasked with creating their Dragster from a block of Balsa wood.
Students drew their idea up on the Computer (CAD), produced their entry, tested it, and then finished and spray painted it in a range of unique designs. Students also learned about safety and the specifications side of racing.
The fastest race time was 1.024 seconds over 20 metres. Well done to all who were involved in particular, Alwin Santosh, Daniel Mastromanno and Ryan Malaeb for having the fastest racers.

Year 10 Decorated Cakes
The Year 10 Food Technology students have each created a decorated fruit cake as part of their learning and assessment. Students were required to create a design based on a theme they had chosen. Many students chose a Novelty theme, which gave them many options to design a creative cake.
Students marinated the dried fruit, prepared the cake mixture, baked the cake, applied fondant over the cake and decorated the cake over a period of three weeks. Students were very creative colouring the fondant and making all decorations. I am very proud of the way the students worked during this task and they are to be congratulated on their amazing work.
