Academic Activities

-National Careers Week

May 16-20 was National Careers week, and here at HPSC students participated in a wide range of workshops, exercises and activities.

Alumni Visit:

On Monday 16th May we welcomed back two HPSC alumni to speak to our year 10 students about their work experience, university courses and the workforce, as well as giving the students tips and advice for securing their own work experience placements. Thank you to Iris Baker and Sahil Matharu for coming back to HPSC and sharing their knowledge with our students!

Throughout the week students had the opportunity to create career action plans, hear from guest speakers from Monash University, and participate in mock interviews with experienced interviewers to prepare them for future jobs!

Scott Darlow Visit

In honour of reconciliation week, on 27th May  we had the pleasure of welcoming Scott Darlow to HPSC!

For years, Scott has travelled all over the world to speak at schools, play his music and educate both students, staff and businesses on Indigenous culture, Australian history and more! Through his message of FLUTE (Forgiveness, Love, Understanding, Tolerance and Empathy), Scott is an intelligent and inspirational speaker who was able to engage with and relate to our students, and we here at HPSC thank him for his time and his enthusiasm!

Scott Darlow is an aboriginal singer, song writer and public speaker, who visited Hampton Park Secondary College to talk about some issues aboriginals still face in Australia today for reconciliation week.

Scott Darlow is an aboriginal man who was born and raised in Hong Kong with his father. He travelled a lot when he was younger, going to 3 different high schools. He now travels all around the world for people to listen to his music. He talked about his goals and how we can succeed in life and how he found his dream career.

From this whole experience with Scott Darlow visiting HPSC I learnt that you should always be you and don’t be afraid of who you are. He spoke a lot about time and how you don’t know how much time you have left, and how you should cherish it. Something meaningful that he said is that once you die, people aren’t going to care about the little achievements you made, but who you are as a person. He also briefly spoke about his love for music, with an end goal of explaining how everyone has a talent, but you need to work hard for it.

Leadership Skills

On Monday 30th May, Miss Louden’s leadership skills class designed their own excursion to the Melbourne CBD to do a walking tour on homelessness with the Salvation Army. Students got to develop their understanding of the causes and support systems in place in our community. They then finished off with some fun at strike bowling!!!

Multicultural Assembly

HPSC’s Multicultural assembly for 2022 was held in 2nd of June in the college gym. the gym was packed with excited students. There were 17 performances by 93 participants. Drummers from Nobel Park English school and students from Cranbourne West Pacifica choir joined together to put up this spectacular event.

We take pride in being members of such a diverse community and we are so excited that we can acknowledge our multiculturalism in our assembly today.

Hampton Park Secondary College is a diverse and multicultural community. Over the past 35 years our cultural make up has changed significantly. We currently have approximately 1200 students, with 67% of students speaking a Language other than English. Our student population represents over 50 countries across all continents of the world, speaking 55 different languages.

This multicultural assembly provided a wonderful opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate our diversity as a community.

The songs and dances that were performed today allow us to become familiar with our many different cultures and what makes each of these cultures unique and special.
