Walton House News
Dear Parents, Carers, Family and Students,
Hello Walton!
Term two has been very full!
We have had events, testing, assemblies, guest speakers and the term isn’t even over, we have so much more to come. To begin, we want to acknowledge the amazing work that the students have been doing so far this term, we are very proud of the student’s efforts, inside and outside of the classroom.
Term Two in a Nutshell!
Earlier this term we had the House Athletics Day, it was fun, competitive and cold! The students did such a great job competing in many amazing events, including track, long jump, high jump and of course the staff v student relay! On the13th of May we ran a Women in STEAM seminar for female identifying students who were given an opportunity to ask professions in the field of STEAM questions and listen to their inspirational stories. It was a fantastic seminar that was facilitated by Ms Amy Mraz (a Walton teacher!) and wellbeing counsellor Harlin.
Last Friday (3rd) the school hosted a Multicultural Assembly where students from various cultural backgrounds were able to wear traditional dress and perform a dance, song, or musical number. It was a fantastic opportunity to pause and celebrate the rich diversity we are lucky to have at HPSC. Additionally, students were encouraged to dress in their cultural clothes, and bring a gold coin donation to raise money for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. Thanks to student’s generous donations, we raised hundreds of dollars for this worthy cause!
Other events:
- Year 12 Formal
- VCAL Work Related Skills Clip n’ Climb excursion
- Melbourne Museum excursion
- Leadership excursion
- Interschool sports
- Scott Darlow visited the school… and many more!

In the final two weeks of term, we have the following events running:
- Week 8 – Year 8 Camp
- Week 9 – Year 9 City Learning Experience (Please ensure you return consent forms for this event)
- Week 9 – Year 10 Work Experience.
Values Nominations and House Points
Throughout Term 2 we have been inundated with values nominations for our wonderful Walton students! It makes us very proud to see Walton students living the HPSC values, which are Respect, Learning and Working Together.
Here the top students for each year level in value nominations for Term Two. Congratulations to the below students, keep up the amazing work!
Year 7: Sotheanith NHEM
Year 8: Monson SILIILI
Year 9: Charlie PERERA
Year 10: Mohadeesa KHIDRI
Year 11: Zahra MOHIBBI
Year 12: Adellah YAWARI
Reading House Points
If sport isn’t your thing, remember that across the houses we have a reading program. This reading program is to encourage students to read books, fill out a mini review and receive 5 house points!
If a student writes a long review, Mr Shinkfield will post it on compass, and that student will be awarded 50 house points (that’s right, 50!).
If you’re interested in this, please go to the library near the returns, and you’ll find some coloured slips. They are in house colours, so grab a yellow one and start reading! Each month we will have staff and student recommendations in the Newshamper.
Student Book Recommendation:
This month’s student book club recommendation comes from the wonderful Year 8 student Revica Rawat.
Revica’s book recommendation is The Maze Runner, by James Dashner.
Student of the Month
In each Newshamper we celebrate the achievements of one student. This month, our student of the month is…
Sefulu Farani Vito – Year 10
We have chosen Sefulu this month because he has acted in a way that upholds the school values. This term, Sefulu has received 11 values nominations from his teachers, giving him a total value of 55 house points this term alone. Keep it up, Sefulu!
We also want to introduce some of the amazing Walton teachers that work within our wonderful house. This month, we are featuring the brilliant Jake Antill!
Ready to Learn Reminders
Please remember to wear your uniforms with pride. Uniform is an important way to demonstrate our togetherness as a community, and a way to represent our school community. It’s a responsibility of students at HPSC to uphold this standard, and overall, we are really impressed with the presentation of uniform so far.
As we are into winter, if a student has an out of uniform jumper, they may loan a school jacket for the day. They will also receive a detention, unless there is a valid reason for being out of uniform and note from home. Wearing the uniform correctly is a great way for us all to show school pride! 😊Remember to attend classes on time, so that students have the best chance at accessing information and content. Being 10 minutes late 5 times a week means students can be missing an hour of class time over the week. A reminder to students to ensure bags aren’t coming to classes, and that lockers are being used appropriately. Enjoy the last few weeks of term, and have a restful, safe and happy break!
Thank you
