Mabo House News

Hi Everyone,

We hope you are all staying warm in these freezing times!

It has been a huge term so far, with Multicultural Assembly, the Model UN Debate, Peer Support and Athletics among other sporting events taking place. It is so great to see our students working together in VCAL PDS with the primary students and with students from junior year levels to run their Scavenger Hunt and Zumba Wellbeing sessions. The students had a great time and enjoyed learning from their peers.

I would like to congratulate all of our Mabo members for their participation and demonstrating House Pride in both novelty and competitive events. I am proud to say MABO ARE THE WINNERS of the 2022 College Athletics!

Overall Athletics Scores:

1st Mabo – 845

2nd Hollows- 757

3rdFreeman – 740

4thWalton - 684

Congratulations to all participants and we are so proud of our Mabo students for bringing home 1st place again!!!!

As our senior students know last week, we said goodbye to Mr O’Connor who has moved to an independent school on the Mornington Peninsula. We thank him for all his hard work as our Mabo Learning Leader and an incredible teacher. We wish him the best on this awesome new adventure he is embarking on.

We are very lucky to have Mr Marriot taking over as our Senior Student Learning Leader. Mr Marriot has worked at the college for over a decade and teaches in the Arts Domain. Please make him feel welcome and direct any questions you may have for Year 11 and 12 students to him. You can read about him below in our Mabo Staff Member of the Month.

As the weather gets cooler it is important that we stay looking sharp in line with the College uniform policy. Plain long white and black sleeves can be worn underneath uniform, layering up like this is a great way to stay warm whilst wearing our uniform correctly with pride. These can be purchased from KMART for between $4-8 dollars (we love a bargain!).

The Mabo team is so impressed by the way you have been conducting yourselves in and outside the classroom. Here are our stats for values nominations, having won the swimming and aths we are in good stead to win the House Cup for 2022:

Respect; 203 student nominations

Learning; 1371 student nominations

Working Together: 621 nominations

Leadership: 96 nominations

Community: 48 nominations

That is a total of 2339 nominations since the beginning of the year! Please remind your teachers to nominate you, we love celebrating how wonderful you are.

We have lots of fantastic things happening around the college to bring Term 2 to an end. With our Year 8 students going to the Mill Valley Ranch Camp, our Year 9 students out on City Experience, our year 10s on Work Experience and our Year 12 VCAL students out on work placement. We hope you take full advantage of these opportunities, the learning that takes place outside of the classroom with experiences like this in the “real world” is something we have not had for a few years and we are so excited to provide this for our students. Please remember when representing the college to wear your uniform with pride, and live our values of Respect, Learning and Working Together.  The Mabo team can’t wait to hear about your experiences and share the highlights with you!

On behalf of the team, we hope you have a restful winter holiday and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.

Take care and we look forward to working with you in Term 3!
