Sport: team news and exciting new opportunities
Intermediate Boys Cricketers
So far term 1 has been very successful for our sports teams at Northcote High. Students have shown outstanding levels of commitment and sportsmanship throughout. We have achieved some victories and therefore secured places at regionals. Congratulations to the following teams; Yr 7, Yr 8 and Yr 9 & 10 Boys cricket teams.
We wish you all the best in the next round!
Our second Annual Community Carnival will be held on Thursday 22nd March 2017 at Collingwood Athletics Centre. This Carnival presents another opportunity to celebrate our school, our sporting traditions and the sporting achievements of our students. All parents/guardians are invited to attend the Carnival with events running between 10am and 1:40pm.
Any parent/guardians that would be interest in assisting in the running of the Carnival please contact Sarah Blanchard via phone (9488 2300) or email (access via Compass) prior to the day.
The aerobics squad are looking for new members. Their professional coach Annabelle Stray continues to lead the girls to aerobic excellence this year and remains committed to their morning training sessions (Monday and Wednesday). Those involved to date have enjoyed participating in a variety of competitions as well as having the opportunity to watch others perform from across the State. If you are interested please come and see Mrs Blanchard in the PE Office for further information.
We have an exciting new opportunity this year at Northcote High. We have been working with Southern Cross Cheer to develop a Northcote Cheer Squad with a view to entering competitions later in the year. The first taster morning took place last week (Thursday) where we had a great turn out from students across the year levels. If you would like to attend come along at try it out there will be another taster morning running next Thursday in the Gym (8am-9am). Please come and see Mrs Blanchard in the PE Office if you would like further information.
Would you like to try a new activity? If so we have another exciting opportunity for our students to be involved with a sailing program at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC).
The program is for students aged 12-18 years and is suitable for both beginners and experienced sailors. It runs between 8:30am and 1:30pm on Sundays for 10 months of the year, with 2 months off over the winter months. The program consists of some time spent getting the boats ready and learning how to do this, a briefing, sailing, packing up the boats, debrief and lunch.
Students are able to complete a 3 week trial before deciding whether or not they want to join.
Please see the attached link the Royal Brighton Yacht Clubs website, which gives full information about the program http://www.rbyc.org.au/sailing/discover-sailing/12-foot-cadets-program-overview-and-activities/
If you are interested in this opportunity or would like more information, please come and see Mrs Blanchard in the PE office.
