Paradigm shifting: curriculum renewal

Realising the vision: The Northcote Model (previously Project Refresh)

In previous editions of this newsletter many of you will have read of the planning, research and consultation that we have been undertaking in relation to our Middle Years Learning.  We have now developed a model for future curriculum provision at Northcote High School, and our teachers are working hard to be ready for the changes to the Years 9&10 Learning Program that will begin in 2018.

Current Year 8 students will be the first to enjoy the new Year 9 format, which will bring Year 10 and Year 9 into closer alignment, and provide our Middle School learners with an increased choice of courses. We are now planning for the introduction and support of the new course selection process with our Year 8s in the second half of this year.

Save the date for a Community Conversation regarding the curriculum update on May 10 2017 and stay alert for updates in future newsletters.

Paradigm Shifters Video Workshop

Year 8 Captains Eve and Hannah, accompanied by Ms Prue Morris last Thursday attended a video workshop with Brett Frawley, who is a freelance video journalist.

Hannah and Eve were shown how to set up interviews, use a mobile phone as a microphone or a light source, structure a video narrative, and source royalty-free music.  They will be making a three minute video which will help us spread the news about The Northcote Model.

The workshop was organised by Paradigm Shifters, a network of schools in association with Mitchell Institute and The Victorian Association of Secondary School Principals, with which we have been working in order to design our new model.

Eve and Hannah’s video will also be presented on 22 May at an exhibition of the projects completed by all the schools in the Paradigm Shifters group.
