JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Steve Quinn

Junior Sub-School Manager

The Year 8 cohort and the Junior Sub School, as a whole, have been getting back into the swing of things, which is great! We are having a number of Home Group challenges that have been, and will continue to be, run throughout the term. These are a great way to get around your Home Group and get to know the Home Group teachers a bit better.

Sporting Achievements

The Junior Sub School has had a number of teams compete in the Interschool Sports over the last few weeks. They have all represented North Geelong Secondary College with great enthusiasm. The Junior Netball and Football competed last Tuesday and were successful without winning all of their matches. The footballers toiled away all day and came away with one win over Western Heights. The highlight of the term, sporting wise, has been the Year 8 Boys Soccer team. This team, lead by Mr Siketa, won the Geelong Regional title. These boys will progress to the next stage of games in the not too distant future. Congratulations to these boys and Mr Siketa.

Reminders

A few reminders of what is coming up for the Junior Sub School over the remainder of the term. The latest round of Progress Reports will be available to access from Wednesday, June 2, so please keep your eye out for those. We have Exams in Week 8 therefore, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the exams please do not hesitate to contact the Sub School Team. Finally, Semester Two will begin in Week 10, please check schedules on Compass as there may be some changes from Monday, 21 June, being the last week of Term One.

Mbots meet North Geelong Secondary College

This week our Year 7 students started coding with the Mbots. We had some great programming skills shown.

Coding is important for students to understand and be able to comprehend the technology around them.

When once it was a skill that only the highly technical could accomplish, today it is a competency that can be learnt by all and brings with it a wealth of personal and academic benefits.

As part of their learning in Year 7 Information Technology, some of the students were able to get the robots dancing, playing music, showing light shows and more.
