From the Assistant Principals

We are very proud of our students and the way they have managed their learning and mental health over what has been a challenging term. We wish all our students a restful and relaxing holiday.

Uniform

We really appreciate the support parents provide in ensuring that students are in full school uniform. Just a reminder that unless senior students have a PE subject on a given day they should be in regular school uniform not PE uniform. Students are not permitted to have nose rings or jewellery other than a watch.

Reporting

Progress reports will be available for viewing on XUNO by the end of the week and most assessment tasks, including the curriculum standards. Due to the COVID interruptions there may be some assessment tasks that are not available until the beginning of next term. Please take time to discuss the reporting results with your child and ask them to reflect on how they might improve next semester. It is most important to recognise the wonderful learning growth many students have achieved.

Uniform Sub-Committee

The uniform sub-committee continue to meet to review our uniform policy. If you would like to join this committee or have any suggestions regarding our uniform, please contact Nick Hamer-Smith (Assistant Principal) at the college.

Building our community and identity (BOCI) Sub-Committee

This sub-committee meets regularly to oversee the promotion and celebration of the diverse cultural backgrounds in our community. Recently we have celebrated a range of events such as reconciliation week and multi-cultural week.

Vision, Mission and Values Statements

Over the last 12 months we have been revising our vision, mission and values statements. There have been opportunities for staff, parents/carers and students to contribute. Below represents these contributions and the value this community places on the role of the school both now and into the future. Stay tuned for further involvement and opportunities for all of our community to have a voice in the direction of the school.

Beachside Division Cross Country

Over 100 students were selected to represent Glen Eira College on Friday 21 May at the Beachside Division Cross Country Competition, which was held at Karkarook Park.  Most students covered a flat and fast 3km course, with some older students running a gruelling 5km.

An incredible 31 students have subsequently qualified for the Southern Metro Region Cross Country Competition, which will be held at Cruden Farm in Term 3.

Several notable achievements included Kane Hijlkema who won the 12-13 Boys and Angus Murrie who won the 14 Boys Multiclass.  Kane was followed across the line in the 12-13 Boys by fellow Year 8 student Lachlan Newby in second place.  In the 15 Boys, Liam Mischel of Year 9 also won the silver medal with a very strong run.

Within the teams event, the 12-13 Boys took out the gold medal whilst the 15 Girls claimed second place as did the 17-20 Boys.  Bronze medals within the teams format were won by the 14 Boys, 15 Boys, 16 Boys and 17-20 Girls.

Well done to all competitors. We look forward to seeing the results from the forthcoming regional final.
