Creative Matchstick Art

Last week during LOTE Week our students put their fabulous creative skills to the test and worked collaboratively to create their own interpretations of famous landmarks around the world.

The following students worked exceptionally well together, demonstrating excellent teamwork, to create their final masterpieces.

Ruffey Lake: Water Observation Excursion

On Friday students went on a Geography observation excursion to Ruffey Lake Park.  We were lucky to have great weather as we walked straight down Church Road to Ruffey Lake Park. Once at the park students used their geography skills to navigate their way to Ruffey Lake. We followed the creek that eventually led us to Ruffey Lake. At the lake, students tested the ph levels of the water and used a colour wheel to rank the levels. We observed the water quality and discussed the possible reasons why this is the case. The litter in and around the lake surprised many students. We were all delighted with the range of birdlife in the lake and the visitors with their pets using the park. Students had a great time in our new learning environment. I hope that all students shared their learning with their families. Years 7A and 7C would like to thank Jeanine Innes one of the school inclusion officers and the Social Work Placement students Ke Xiou and Samantha Dong for attending the excursions with them.

THE WATER FIELDWORK EXCURSION

The class of 7C students investigated water quality at Ruffey Lake Park. With the guidance of teacher Ms Cathy Gucciardo, students observed the creek and lake and tested the pH value of the water. They were active to explore the water quality and discuss the reasons for that. Moreover, they listened carefully to Ms Gucciardo’s introduction of the history of the park and took initiative to develop geography knowledge.

During the excursion, students showed their respect to the pedestrians, cyclists, ducks and dogs at the park. In addition, they cheered on a group of students from another school who was in a running competition. Last but not least, although there were uphill trails, students walked with resilience and perseverance, and completed the tasks successfully!
