Term 3 | Week 4

With the restrictions placed upon our community we are sending home each Friday a Junior School Weekly Update to keep you informed of life in the classrooms and playground. This will be in addition to the fortnightly Newsletter which will focus on general areas of education.

We have recently purchased, through the generosity of our P&F, a number of readers for our K-2 children to take home as part of the reading program. These will appear shortly in school bags and I’m sure will provide great interest from our students.

Along with these purchases, staff have been undergoing hours of professional learning in bringing more literacy to the classroom through a program called the Accelerated reader.

This program helps teachers manage and monitor children's independent reading practice. Our Literacy Integrator, Mrs Charlton, will be forwarding information in the next few weeks outlining the benefits and how you can be involved in your child’s reading - the most important gift we can give to a child.

Over the last few weeks, Year 3-6 have been involved in the 6 Event Athletics program designed by Mr May. While our Inter-house and representative pathways have been cancelled this new format has proved very popular with the students. The final day of events was on Monday and the 800m was the challenge - we saw some quality performances from our students. The most pleasing aspect was the number of students who ran, in the knowledge they would find it difficult, but still “had a go.” Well done to these students.

With the changes this year come many positives and the Athletics program has been one of these. Another area where challenges have been taken on is the Eisteddfod circuit. Last weekend a number of our students contested an online Speech and Drama competition called Speak Up devised by an ex-student of KWS. The results are in the Performing Arts section of the newsletter.

At Assembly we acknowledged the following students:

  • Jack Dale - Citizenship Award (Week 4)
  • Matthew Lowther - Principal's Award (Week 4)

Enjoy your week.
