Rugby: The KWS Games 2020

Since the decision was made to not participate in the ISA Division 1 competition in 2020, KWS Rugby has designed a unique player-centred internal rugby competition “The KWS Games” for Term 3. Revolving around the literary theme of Suzanne Collins’ ‘The Hunger Games’, the rugby program split into four internal ‘districts’ each vying for supremacy in a locked down world, with a Y7/8, Y9/10 and Y11/12 team each accumulating points towards the overall competition.

The 6-week format sees a new set of creative rule conditions for each weekly fixture designed to develop the technical, tactical and psychological traits central to KWS Rugby moving forward, including our priorities of counter-attack, offloading, speed of play, creativity and leadership. Students are supported by our team of experienced coaches to find on-field solutions to each week’s challenges, being given ownership and responsibility.

The first week of fixtures in Week 3 provided an exciting array of attacking rugby, with rules creating opportunities for fast, expansive play. The pick of the games was in the U14’s with District 3 running out 32-24 winners over District 4 after a hard-fought end-to-end game and in the U16’s with District 2 scoring with the last play of the game to take a tight win over District 1.

We look forward to Round 2 this week with the U14’s on Wednesday and U16 and U18’s on Thursday, for our rugby league inspired rules with six-tackle sets and 50/22 kicks in play.

Cricket

Kinross Wolaroi School Cricket Club (KWSCC) is pleased to be planning for a regular season, playing in the BOIDC, ODCA and ODJCA competitions. Season 2020/21 registrations are now available at playcricket.com.au. Search for ‘Kinross Wolaroi’ and register for the appropriate competition as listed.

As part of the Cricket Australia ‘Return to Train & Play’ framework, parents/guardians and students/players are encouraged to become familiar with cricket specific guidelines. In particular, there is to be no sharing of equipment (including pads, gloves, helmets and protectors). In the first instance KWSCC wishes to encourage participation and will implement the ‘KWSCC Gear Library’, to loan equipment for the season. At the season start, please see MIC Mr Ronald to loan required equipment. The ‘Return to Train & Play’ framework can be found here: www.community.cricket.com.au/clubs/covid-19

Pre-Season Schedule

Players are encouraged to sign-up to TeamApp ‘KWS Cricket’ to keep up-to-date with any changes to the schedule below.

Centenary Cup

KWSCC participates in the ODCA Centenary Cup competition, providing committed parents/carers with the opportunity to play with their sons/daughters. Generally KWS has two teams and up to three parents may play on any given Saturday afternoon in each team. Depending on ability and interest, student players are usually in Year 9 or 10 and play their morning Junior games as well, with Centenary Cup usually a stepping stone to 1st and 2nd XI cricket. Please contact MIC Mr Ronald (bronald@kws.nsw.edu.au) if you are interested in playing this season.
