Big Funding Boost for Vocational Training

The big news for this month is the $57 million training package that the McGowan government has announced. It aims to reduce training fees while providing a path to employment.

 

Free Short Courses

There are 15 free short courses as part of the package. These free skill sets1 will get students ready for new jobs and provide pathways to full qualifications.

 

They include:

  • infection control skill sets,
  • agriculture,
  • hospitality,
  • civil construction and
  • logistics,
  • small business.
  • cybersecurity,
 

 

Many of the short courses have built-in foundation digital skills and literacy and numeracy training.

 

Skills sets are a selection of key units chosen from a full qualification that will make you job- ready. When you have passed these units, you can use them as credit towards a full qualification later.

 

Fees reduced between 50% and 67% for 27 Certificate level qualifications

UWA Update

Scholarships, Open Day and more Scholarships Scholarship applications open on 6 July for semester one 2021 intake. Students can apply through the  Scholarship Application.

 

 Direct Pathway to the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine For 2021, an interview will be introduced for the Direct Pathway to the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. These interviews are in the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format and will be conducted in late November/early December. Applicants will be shortlisted for interview using their predicted ATAR. Rankings for offers will be made using actual ATAR and interview score, equally weighted.

Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship 

The undergraduate scholarships are for students that will study a 'technology' related course, at any one of five universities( Murdoch in WA). They will receive $5000 each year for three years to purchase equipment, attend events or on any opportunity that is related to their learning; but most importantly, they receive mentorship and leadership training from Westpac (including a trip to Singapore).

TISC University Admissions Information 2021

TISC is the Tertiary Institutions Services Centre. It is the Centre that organizes applications to universities across Western Australia (apart from Notre Dame).

 

This year the system has gone haywire with early offers and special applications causing the system to become so flexible it may be wobbly!

 

The normal TISC application system is already open. It closes at the end of September.

The Science Experience

The Science Experience is a 3 or 4 days of science activities for Year 9 and 10 students.

 

Each program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists who love their work.

Vet in Schools 2021 Courses (North and South Metropolitan TAFE) 

Take a look at what the  North Met TAFE Schools Program 2021 and South Met TAFE Vet in Schools Offering 2021 Please note: Our students’ complete courses on a Thursday or Friday.

 

VET Delivered to Secondary Students courses are extremely competitive, therefore it is recommended you provide as much evidence as possible to support your application. These documents must be uploaded when applying through our online application system. 

 

To complete the application you will need

  • Western Australian Student number (WASN). This can be found on your school report or speak with your school’s VET Coordinator; 
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) number. If you have not already created an USI then you will need to visit this website first www.usi.gov.au/your-usi/create-usi  ; 
  • Year 9 & 10 school reports in an electronic format i.e. PDF (‘C’ grade or above in Mathematics and English is preferred but all applications will be considered); 
  • OLNA (Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment) Report (if applicable); 
  • Parent/guardian email address and mobile phone number; 
  • Resume, references and any certificates which will help support your application; and 
  • A Student Statement outlining why you should be selected to participate in the course (please note there is a limit of 255 characters that can be entered in this section). 

When selecting course preferences it is important that you have read the information about each course in the 2021 VET Delivered to Secondary Students Course Guide and discussed your options with your school before you start your application, as not all courses may be appropriate for you. Your school VET Coordinator will be contacted to endorse your application.

 

When selecting your course you will need to select your campus first. It is important that you can travel with ease to and from that campus (you may find this website useful) www.transperth.wa.gov.au .

  

Once you commence your application, you can save your changes if you need to exit and return at a later time. You will be emailed a link to your saved application which you can only access from the email address entered at the time you save and exit.

YEAR 11 NEWS

Murdoch Horizons Summer School

This 3-week summer school is run in January 2021. It introduces you to life as a university student. It provides an entry pathway to university once you have completed Year 12.

Why attend?

  • Prepare for year 12: Each unit will explore new perspectives, learning strategies and knowledge for your year 12 studies.
  • Receive credit towards a Murdoch degree: On completing the program, you'll receive a certificate and three points of credit towards a Murdoch degree, which is the equivalent of one subject or unit.
  • Complete a university-level subject while you're still at school: When you start at university, you'll feel right at home in your new surroundings.
  • Meet new people and study in state-of-the-art facilities: You'll work in small groups to address real-world problems under the guidance of internationally renowned lecturers and academics, together with mentoring from experienced Murdoch students.

31 July Applications close for National Maths Summer School

The next National Maths Summer School will be held for two weeks in Canberra in January 2021.

 

To be selected, students must be intending to take Year 12 mathematics next year and must be very high-performing school mathematicians with a passion to achieve all they can.
