Say yes to opportunity

The world is learning plenty about flexibility in 2020. The creativity in our planning was evidenced with the holiday performance of ‘Wicked’. Congratulations to our cast and crew on an outstanding production. Our Director, George Tsakisiris, and everyone involved are to be commended for the wonderful showcase of our students’ gifts and talents. Thank you also to the extended community for their understanding with respect to ticket sales and it was brilliant that we were able to have an audience to appreciate the quality of the production.

Important Parent-Student-Teacher interviews were also well attended this week. It was an opportune time to discuss student progress in the first semester and consider opportunities for growth and improvement for the remainder of the year. It is great to be able to have parents back on campus.

Good teachers will always reflect on what is working well in the classroom and consider ways in which student learning may be enhanced. However, the single biggest determinant of academic success will be the effort and capacity of students. That is always my message to students.

This week we acknowledged some of our high achieving students with a breakfast. Our guest speaker was Connor Jenkins, Head Boy from the Class of 2016. Connor spoke of his own experiences at our College and his university life since leaving school. I loved his message of ‘saying yes to opportunity’ even if it takes us a little out of our comfort zone. His own ‘CV’ is very impressive but Connor was quick to indicate that he has faced challenges and disappointments as well.

Best wishes to the following members of staff returning to the College after periods of leave:

  • Eva-Maria Catania (Psychologist)
  • Dirk Gleghorn (Head of Religious Education)
  • Ylenia Casidio (Science)
