The Ivy Voice team would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people, who are the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which our School stands. We would also like to pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging of the Kulin Nation and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Welcome back to the second edition of The Ivy Voice!

We hope you enjoyed the last edition and that it brought you a sense of community during these isolated times. Unfortunately, we are releasing yet another publication in isolation, which wasn’t quite what we hoped would happen.

Nevertheless, we all know Australia has no problems with going 'down under' and we’ve got a jam-packed newspaper for you with contributions from all campuses including The Ridgeway Campus, Plenty Campus, University Campus and Buckley House.

Always seeking improvement and Ivy Community involvement, we’d love to start a Letter to the Editors component in our future editions. In the tradition of Letter to the Editors, it will serve two main purposes; for the readers to review the edition and for the community to share common experiences, so please, contact us!

We thought the most suitable theme for this edition would be ‘Global and Local Citizenship’ given the current climate across the world. Unfortunately, as we have all become aware over the past few months, there are still many problems surrounding systematic racism in Australia, despite this being brought to our attention by matters in the United States. Additionally, last year, the Climate Crisis became a prevalent issue for students our age across the world, causing us to look towards our futures and rethink our environmental impact as both students and global citizens. Further, LGBTQIA+ issues have been more openly expressed in our School setting as well as gender equality, allowing students to be more confident to share their opinions in this edition. Finally, with the current COVID-19 circumstances, people facing homelessness have struggled to find the same community assistance as they would previously, and additionally, refugees have struggled to find safety during these times.

To continue our traditions, there are written term reflections, articles regarding student projects or co-curricular activities and many artworks throughout the publication, which we hope you enjoy as much as we do. Also, to change things up a bit we have an article about our School's history with an exclusive interview with Mr Brown, the Executive Officer, OIGA with some photographic records of the 1978 Spectator, the School's past newspaper. While Greta Thunberg did not return our DMs, we were lead to some incredible people that we would like to share with you, an interview with Lili Mayer from School Strike 4 Climate and Ms Kate Thwaites, our local MP.

If you have any questions, comments, letters to the editors or want to find out more about any of the topics covered in the newspaper, please contact us both with the email addresses below.

We hope you find it a rewarding experience and we’d love to hear from you.

All the best,

Editors, Emilie and Harriet
