Managing Screen Time and Online Safety

As your child is spending time online, it is important that you talk to them about online safety.  Please do not assume they know how to manage every situation themselves.

A conversation with your child(ren) to establish their understanding of the following  will help them to make good digital choices and get the most out of using digital learning technologies responsibly.

Speak to your child(ren) about ensuring they:

Make good digital choices and use information and communication technologies responsibly. Follow the IPS Acceptable User Agreement.

Use only the online tools recommended by IPS or the Department of Education and Training (DET).

Are respectful when communicating online, just as they would be when speaking face-to-face.

Use digital devices in open areas of the home.

Only access age appropriate content and material (including what to do if they stumble across something inappropriate).

Keep passwords confidential (but make sure you know them).

Students can participate in audio and chat conversations and  genrally don’t need to be on video if this proves to be a distraction.

Parents and students should note that WebEx conversations may be recorded and archived for Child Safe Standards purposes. A student cannot edit or delete a post.

Please respect that the Virtual classroom is a space for our teachers and students. We strongly encourage you to support your child with their learning progress, however when they are engaging in a video conferencing meeting with the class, it is important that you allow them to participate independently.  Mind you are not in the camera's background as this may prove distracting for other students.

IPS expects

Students will be a safe, responsible and ethical user whenever and wherever they use their device and whilst communicating with their teachers.

Students will follow the teacher’s instructions whilst participating in videoconferencing sessions.

The above are examples of how together we can build an effective partnership between home and school.

Remember - Report cyberbullying or the sharing of inappropriate content to your child's teachers straight away.
