BPPS Naidoc Week Celebration Day

At BPPS we are holding a free dress celebration day on Wednesday 18th November, in acknowledgement of Naidoc Week 2020.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Students are invited to come dressed in clothing that celebrates and respects the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

They could wear the Augumwali Islander Dress which is traditional in the Torres Strait Islands, as are bright and patterned shirts.

Please bring a gold coin!

JSC have chosen to support Cathy Freeman Foundation, whose

programs support Indigenous students to experience their full

potential at school.

The Foundation acknowledges the strength and wisdom that lies within remote Indigenous communities. Their work demands strong and trusting partnerships with community, elders and school leaders. Their vision is an Australia where Indigenous and non-Indigenous children have the same education standards and opportunities in life.

Remembrance Day thank you

Each year on the 11th November, Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

Along with this, over the last two weeks, JSC sold poppies in support of programs offered by the RSL.

On behalf of JSC, thank you to everyone who bought poppies and made donations.
