Booklists for 2021

To align with the class structures for 2021, as outlined by Bernie earlier in the newsletter, we have made some slight adjustments to the booklists for next year. In the next week or so you will receive a note about the 2021 booklist and fee arrangements. We have tried to keep this as simple as possible so as to avoid confusion.

The book lists have been organised so students purchase in accordance with their school year level. The year level book lists have been aligned with their composite year level to ensure students within the classes have similar items. The only difference will be the extra strategic purchases in Years 2 and 4 and any developmentally different resources i.e. different sized dotted third writing books.  (Check last week’s newsletter for more details).

For 2021 all student book packs will be delivered directly to their classroom in preparation for their first day of school. Teachers will be working with students to clearly label and manage their resources throughout the year. More information about his will be included in the booklist and fees letter.

Should you have any questions regarding booklists, please don’t hesitate to contact Tracey in the school office.

NAIDOC Week

This week we celebrate NAIDOC week by acknowledging the traditional owners of our land. Throughout the week students will be involved in discussing the importance this week plays in valuing our rich indigenous past.

As a school we will be:

Conducting lunchtime activities:

Most days this week, students will be invited to central points at both campuses to participate in some NAIDOC Week activities.

Monday: Understanding the 2020 NAIDOC Week theme and colouring in the official poster.

Tuesday: Creating a huge indigenous mural for display.

Thursday: Indigenous Art - How to make a Bunjil.

Friday: Indigenous games.

Exploring indigenous books during Library:

Kim has done a great job to create a display in the Library area at both campuses. These books help the students understand the importance of our rich indigenous past. Students will have time to explore these books during their Library time.

Understanding NAIDOC Week through Morning Announcements:

Every morning this week, as part of the Morning Announcements, students will here about the important role NAIDOC week plays in building a diverse and culturally respectful world. Students will have the chance to discuss information that is presented with their classroom teacher before going out for their break each day.

Celebrating the Buninyong Indigenous trail posters:

The Scotsburn students have been involved in designing and creating posters for the Mt Buninyong indigenous trail. These posters will be displayed along the path to the summit of Mt Buninyong. There will also be copies of these posters displayed at each campus throughout the week. Thanks to Mrs Anderson, and Bianca from Leigh Catchment Group for their work on this project. Hopefully a few students and their families can make the trek up Mt Buninyong in the next few weeks to see the posters.
