What's happening in the 5/6 classrooms

We have been very busy in the Senior school over the past two weeks. It have been wonderful having all the students back together again and there has been plenty of catching up, laughter and smiles.

In Inquiry we are focussing on our wellbeing, looking closely at four elements: emotional, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing and how they can impact our mental health and overall wellbeing. Last week we did a team work activity together - an A to Z scavenger hunt! The students have a great time working in teams, searching for things beginning with each letter of the alphabet. The teachers also had such a great time watching them that we forgot to take some photos!

In Religious Education we have been looking closely at some of the Gospel stories leading up to Advent, such as the Annunciation of Mary and Joseph being visited in his dream. The students have been using the Main, Side, Hidden thinking routine to deepen their understanding of the events.

In English we have been experimenting with different forms of poetry. So far we have composed limericks, haiku poems, cinquains and odes. We have also been using other poems to look at how figurative language such as idioms, similes and metaphors are used.

In Mathematics we have been exploring mass, capacity and volume. The students were highly engaged as they weighed different classroom objects, estimating their mass, recording their findings and even converting from grams to kilograms or vice versa.
