What's happening in the Junior classrooms

With the return to onsite schooling, the Junior School is once again a hive of activity! The students have been reuniting with their classmates, working together in a variety of collaborative learning experiences and engaging with a range of different topics.

The Juniors have been exploring our whole-school concept of Wellbeing during their inquiry sessions. We have been learning about ways to grow our spiritual, emotional, social and physical wellbeing. We have named our weekdays Mindful Monday, Self-Care Tuesday, Welcoming Wednesday, Thankful Thursday and Physical Activity Friday. On each of these days, we have been participating in experiences like prayer, meditation, yoga and investigations.

Spiritual wellbeing is integrated with our Religious Education focus of Creation. The Juniors have been learning about God as Creator, God as King and God as Shepherd. The 1/2 students have been reflecting on their personal images of God and reflecting on ways to be stewards of creation.

In English, the Prep students have been learning about narratives. Some fairy tale characters came to life and visited our classrooms! 1/2 students have been learning about Persuasive writing. They have been reading and responding to different books, such as 'Can I Be Your Dog?' and 'The Day the Crayons Quit.' Students have imagined themselves as characters in these books and written persuasive letters from their points of view.

Finally, in Mathematics, the Junior School has been focussing on location, addition and subtraction. We have been using concrete materials to show their learning and understanding of splitting up numbers using place value before performing calculations. It has been fantastic to be back in the classroom and taking advantage of all the hands-on learning opportunities.
