Year 12 Graduation

The Year 12 Graduation Sundowner was held at the Mukinbudin Community Garden on Friday 23rd October 2020. It was a beautiful evening for the Year 12's surrounded by their family, friends and staff. We celebrated with delicious wood fired pizza, mocktails and a graduation cake. Congratulations to Jesse Booker, Amy Mclachlan, Chanelle Nayda and Jessica Summers. Jesse is keeping busy over the summer with pool and harvest work, moving into a carpentry apprenticeship in 2021. Chanelle has successfully secured early entry into Curtin University to study a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting). Jessica is completing a TAFE qualification and is hoping to be a Child Care worker. Amy has a goal to become a hairdresser in the Wheatbelt.

Congratulations! You will be missed by the MDHS community!

Curtin and Murdoch University Incursions

This term the secondary students have been visited by Curtin & Murdoch university conducting sessions on post-school pathways.

The Yr 8-10 girls were visited by Caitlin from Murdoch university to get a rundown on future careers and what university life is all about. Interest was piqued when discussions where had about what food was available on campus and all the different clubs they could join (the napping club, Kanye West appreciation club and the gaming society to name a few). University lifestyle discussions aside, it was a really valuable session in exposing students to the innovative, STEM-based courses now available at university. This session leads into a Wise Women Conference the Yr 8-10 girls will be attending during the Secondary Camp.

Year 5/6 and Year 1/2 Collaborative Puppets

In the spirit of Book Week and the Book Fair, the year 1/2’s and year 5/6’s joined forces to create some curious artic creatures inspired by “The Gruffalo’s Child” Once we made the creatures into puppets, we created, rehearsed and presented a small show using our creatures as the characters. Check out our creations in the school library.

Golf Workshop

On Tuesday 27th October, Golf WA came to MDHS on their regional visits with the MyGolf in Schools program, supported by Healthway’s Smarter than Smoking message. We were lucky enough to have a Development Officer from Golf WA join us to help introduce the game of golf to our students in Years 1-10. Students participated in a session learning the fundamentals of golf in a fun, inclusive, game-based environment. We have some pretty handy golfers amongst our students and it was great to see them enjoy the afternoon!

Book Fair

We were lucky enough to have the Book Fair held in the Library on the 26th and 27th October.  The theme for this year was 'Arctic Adventure'.  The staff and students dress up day and parade was a fabulous display of costumes (great work parents!) varying from Arctic Explorers, Icebergs and Penguins to Mr Willy Wonka, The Mad Hatter, The Saucepan Man, Charlottes Web, Ninja Kid, King Pig and plenty more.  Well done to all of the staff and students who got into the spirit and dressed up, it shows how much fun reading books is!

A massive thank you to all our helpers and business for giving them time off to visit.

Indonesian Independence Day

On Friday the year 5/6’s, 3/4's and Pre-Primaries joined forces to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day. We shared afternoon tea and played variations of common Indonesian games such as marble race, climb the rope, dance contests, balance fights, cracker eating contests and mud soccer. A big thank you goes to Mrs Rice for organising the event.
