A note from Mr Jackson

Orientation Evening

It was great to welcome families to the 2023 Prep Information Session last night. We gathered in the hall and learnt what learning looks like in the Prep area, as well as heard some tips and tricks to starting the primary experience. A special thanks to Monica and Stephen for sharing their experiences as parents - it was great to have their ‘insider’ perspectives. The next orientation will be on Thursday 1 December with a 9:30am drop off in the STEM Garden and a 10:30am pickup. This will be an opportunity for our future Preps to introduce their buddies to their parents.

VicSRC Awards Tonight

Students in our Junior School Council are attending the VicSRC (Victorian Student Representative Council) Awards night. We were thrilled to hear of their success at being nominated as finalists in the awards. While we are all excited about what the night might hold, we are thrilled simply to be shaped by their ideas and passion for student agency in learning.

ICAS Mathematics Certificates

Yesterday the ICAS Certificates arrived for all who completed the mathematics assessments earlier in the year. Their delay was related to a technical scoring issue! While a number will receive the highest recognition for their performance, all deserve to be congratulated for bending their brains around some tricky questions. We look forward to presenting the certificates at assembly this week.

A Big Day for Year 6 Students

Tuesday 13 December will be a big day for many of our Year 6 students as they visit their 2023 government high schools. This transition day is another important transitional step in supporting students and families as they leave their local primary schools and dive into secondary education. We will be wishing them well.

A Bigger Day for Prep to Year 5 Students

On the same day as the Year 6 Transition, students from Prep through to Year 5 are looking forward to celebrating a full and rich year of learning in 2022. On this day students will be walking to Rosanna Parklands and participating in a range of fun games. They will have their lunch and then be bussed to Northland Hoyts cinemas to watch a movie. They will then return by 3:30pm with lots of stories to tell. Information on this special day is available on Compass and will be sent home as a note. The cost for the big day out is only $20.00.

The canteen will be offering a special sushi lunch that students may wish to order as part of the celebrations on the Big Day Out. More information on ordering will be available in the coming weeks.

FORPS As Busy As ever

There are lots of bustling activities on the horizon for our FORPS team. Please make sure that you catch the latest in their newsletter article. Yesterday, we sent home notes eager to have volunteers for the Election Day sausage sizzle or contributions to the cake and plant stall on the day. Please make sure these dates are in your diary and join us to raise money for the school.

Volunteer Morning Tea

Staff have gathered and are eager to celebrate the way volunteers have supported their classrooms and learning this year. This week we look forward to sending home an invitation to a special morning tea on Wednesday 30 November between 10:50am and 11:30pm. While we are hopeful to invite all who have pushed lawn mowers, read with students in corridors or travelled on buses to swimming, my greatest fear is to leave someone off! This is a preemptive ‘sorry’ if this is the case. Please consider yourself invited. Please shoot through your RSVP via  email to

rosanna.ps@education.vic.gov.au so staff can cater.

2023 School Structure

As we prepare for 2023, staff have looked at the expected enrolments and devised a class structure that we hope will meet the needs of all students. While we would like to think that this plan is final, it continues to be a first option and changes may be required based on changing enrolments. The structure at the moment for 2023 is made up of 14 classes and is shaped in the following way:

Prep, Prep, Prep

1/2, 1/2, 1/2, 1/2

3/4, 3/4, 3/4, 3/4

5/6, 5/6, 5/6

The specialist program will continue to be Physical Education, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Music and Italian.

Transition for all Students

On Monday we leapt into 2023 and began our transition programme for all year levels. Initially postponed by the rain, this transition session was a chance for students to gather in their 2023 area groups and begin conversations around what life might look like in the new grade level. It was a chance to ease anxieties and support students who may feel a little nervous about the coming year. There is another transition opportunity planned prior to the ‘Meet the Teacher’ session scheduled for the last full week of term.

Policy Updated: Anaphylaxis

One of our most significant policies of Rosanna Primary is the Anaphylaxis Policy. The policy describes the strategies our community has in place that support students with anaphylaxis. This policy has been updated recently and the latest version can be found on our website here.
