Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Friday is Remembrance Day. As a school community we will stop, remember and pray for, not only those brave men and women who died or were wounded in conflict but for peace in our lives and our country. This is an important time to gather in silence, and reflect on the sacrifices made for our wonderful, free country. Thank you Year 3/4 who will lead the reflection for the whole school on the front lawn beginning at 10:50am. Families are most welcome to join us. The Social Justice Leadership Team and myself will join members of our local RSL at 11am in Mactier Park for the memorial service and to lay a wreath on behalf of Sacred Heart School.

November is also a time when we especially remember and pray for all those we have loved and who have died, May God grant them eternal rest. Amen.

It was lovely to commence the 2023 Transition Program and welcome our new Foundation students to Sacred Heart this week. It was the first of the days when they can ‘try school’ and spend time getting to know the school, some new friends and meeting staff. A parent information session will be held for new enrolments on Tuesday, November 15th at 6pm in the Mercy Centre. This will be an opportunity for families to find out more about school and ways you can best prepare for this exciting milestone. Please phone the school office if you would like any further information. Members of the School Advisory Council will also be in attendance this evening to welcome families and answer any questions.

We are currently seeking nominations for our School Advisory Board 2023. Becoming a member of our School Advisory Council [SAC] is an excellent way for parents to become involved in the life of the school. Nomination forms and further information regarding the SAC is on the SAC page in this newsletter or Kylee Dewis, our SAC Chair, members of the SAC or myself are available for further information. Some areas SAC has recently advised on are school improvement and curriculum initiatives. SAC invite new and existing families along to a “Cuppa and Conversation” on Friday, December 2nd. We hope families can join us.

It has been a very wet Spring and with more rain forecast, it’s important to stay on guard against increased mosquito numbers. We would recommend applying insect repellent on your child each morning and perhaps wearing long shirts/pants.

Next Monday our 5/6s will be finally heading off for their much anticipated Canberra camp. The itinerary is full and this should be a wonderful experience for all. Thank you to staff who have spent many, many hours preparing for the camp and to the parent helpers who are going along to support the staff. We are looking forward to hearing all about it on your return.

Last Thursday 3-6s travelled to Melbourne and enjoyed a great day with the Vixen’s coaching staff. The day was so well organised and the activities were suited and fun for all. It is always lovely to hear the compliments that your children are given when they represent their school at various events and once again you should all be very proud. The coaching staff were so complimentary with how engaged, respectful and positive your children were and they were particularly impressed with how willing everyone was to give everything a go. Thank you to all the 3-6 for being your absolute best throughout the day and making us feel very proud of you all. Thank you to Nicole Brown for coordinating this great experience and to the staff and parents who attended.

Next Friday F-2 will have their rescheduled Twisted Science Incursion so will have lots to tell you following that. Some Year 5 students will be attending the Just Leadership Day at St Mary’s Mooroopna and Year 6 will be joining Matt Hooper and Rachel Doller on the Lake Bartlett Toilet Murals. So, a busy day on Friday!

Congratulations to Eliza Abraham who won the Australian Show Jumping Championship. Also, congratulations to Danni Do-Le who qualified 8th in the state for high jump at the State Athletic Championships in Melbourne. What a wonderful achievement for both girls.

We wish our OT, Annie Seccull and her partner Xavier, all the very best for their wedding day on Friday, 11th Nov. We hope the sun shines for you both on your special day.

A reminder that Friday, November 18th is a pupil free day for all students.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
