COVID-19 UPDATE

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported at school. This is having an impact on both staff and students.

For this reason, we kindly request that you please use rapid antigen testing if your child is showing any symptoms and keep them home if they appear to be unwell.

Currently guidelines for COVID-19 cases are as follows:

  • You are most infectious 2 days before your symptoms start, and while you have symptoms. It is recommended that you should isolate for at least 5 days and until you don’t have symptoms anymore.
  • This means you should not go to work, school or grocery shopping. Especially if you work with people at a higher risk of becoming very sick with COVID-19.

While isolating, you should:

  • Call your workplace or school and let them know you have COVID-19.
  • If you’re unsure about ending your isolation, you should contact a GP or a GP Respiratory Clinic.
  • Wear a face mask when you leave home for at least 7 days after testing positive as you may still be infectious.

Guidelines for close contacts:

  • COVID-19 can take time to develop, so you should monitor for symptoms for at least 7 days after your last contact with the person who has COVID-19.
  • A close contact should regularly test for at least 7 days following their last contact with the person who has COVID-19.

CHILD SAFETY

New tech online safety guide for the festive season

At the end of 2021 a new online safety guide was released for parents and others who are buying technology for children this festive season. Developed by the Australian Federal Police-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation and the AFP's ThinkUKnow program, the Gaming, Devices and What You Need to Know safety guide is designed to provide easy steps to help protect children online. AFP Commander ACCCE and Human Exploitation Hilda Sirec said tech was on many children's Christmas wish lists this year.

WELLBEING RESOURCES

We know that it can sometimes be hard to find the necessary resources in relation to mental health, bullying and family violence, especially when things are tough. For this reason, the School has a small webpage with links related to health and wellbeing resources. This can be found on the School's website under Other Resources or can be found here.

ICAS ACHIEVEMENTS

In Term 3, a select number of students from Years 5-11 participated in the ICAS competition in the areas of Writing, Mathematics and Science.

ICAS celebrates and recognises the achievement of students through assessments that ask students to apply what they learn in the classroom to new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

Last week these students received certificates for their participation and achievement. Well done to all of our students involved.

A special mention to two of our students who received a distinction in the area of writing:

Annalise M (Year 9)

Jet R (Year 6)

VARIETY HAIR FOR KIDS

Hi, my name is Isabel, I am 15 years old and a student at BHCS.

I’ve been growing my hair since I was about 10 years old and wanted to donate my hair to a company who make wigs for a good cause.

Variety Hair for kids provides grants for kids across Australia who have lost their hair due to medical conditions such as alopecia, cancer and trichotillomania.

They allow a child to be fitted for a specialised custom-made real hair, suction wig, that gives them increased confidence and self-esteem in their everyday lives.

I cut my hair recently and donated my ponytail to Variety Hair for Heart to make a wig for a child suffering from hair loss, but I would also like to raise some funds to help more children. One wig can cost $6000 and only lasts 2 or 3 years, which can make it really hard for families to afford.

Here is a link to the fundraising page for those who may also wish to donate to this cause: https://hairwithheart.variety.org.au/s/7512/7512
