LMR Table Tennis

It was a short trip to the Eaglehawk Table Tennis Centre, but a long Loddon Mallee Regional (LMR) Final in the making given the postponement of the show-down owing to floods.

With Luke Fisher out of action and his right wrist in a cast, Noah Willits (8 Jones) stepped seamlessly into the fold to make up Girton’s awesome Year 8 foursome, alongside Max Henderson (8 Millward), Oliver McKenzie (8 Millward) and Louis Wood (8 Millward).

Our opponents were Bendigo South East College and Trinity Lutheran College from Mildura.

In a yo-yo-style tournament, we won some sets and we lost some sets, but when the points were added up, Girton was at the top of the tally and announced as the overall winner on the day.

The team now progresses to the State Finals in Melbourne on 25th November. They will be wearing the navy and white with pride and may even come home as Victorian champions!

The Year 10 Intermediate girls team also made it through to the overdue LMR Final and put on a fine show of skill and sportsmanship against Marist College. Lily Richter (10 Jenkin), Charlotte Bett (10 Aherne), Amelie Woodward (10 Jones) and Monique Reid (10 Aherne), were competitive and composed, and despite not accumulating enough points to progress to the State Finals, they were winners for our school.

Congratulations to all table tennis competitors who represented Girton at the LMR Finals.
