Energy - ResourceSmart Schools 5th Star

On Tuesday we had Raj from Victorian Power Savers come all the way from Melbourne to do a light audit of our entire school. Victorian Power Savers is a government funded initiative where trained facilitators come to schools and businesses to assess light usage and replace any lights e.g. fluorescent lights to LED. By doing this the kilowatt usage per light can go from 250 kilowatts to 25 kilowatts per hour. What a huge difference!

Raj was impressed with the upgrades that our Pods have had in recent years and the choice of lighting in our new buildings. However his visit still proved very useful as we still have plenty of lights that can be replaced. We are very much looking forward to his report and what they can offer us to improve our energy consumption.

Our students and teachers are becoming more vigilant by the week to remember to turn off lights and appliances when not in use. The work of our Green Team Students has also not gone unnoticed. They have been entering PODS at recess and lunch and turning lights off where needed. They are also catching out classes who have been the most consistent at conserving energy. Last week at Assembly Mrs Pentreath’s Year 5 class were acknowledged for these actions. Well done Year 5CPE! With the upgrade of light fittings and classrooms being more vigilant with energy use we are looking forward to seeing our Energy Bills go down. Our next step after that is looking into our Solar. Watch this space!
