Preparing for 2023

Whilst this is a long school term and we have many rigorous teaching and learning goals planned for the next few weeks, we are also in the thick of planning for 2023 - including looking at the best ways to group children into classes for next year. When we plan classes, there are many weeks of discussions and problem-solving whilst we examine the academic, social and emotional needs of every single child. We strive to find a balance of students who work well together, inspire the best in one another, feel like they have a friend present, have like-minded peers for learning tasks and have their sensory and learning needs met. So in summary - a complex task! 2022 class teachers are an integral part of this process, as they know your child so well but we also call on the professional expertise of our Education Support Staff, Specialist team and Tutors to ensure that we have considered every aspect of your child's education and wellbeing.

Assessment and Reporting

Whilst the weather would lead us to believe differently, we are fast heading towards the end of the year which means that our teachers and education support staff have been busily preparing end-of-year reports as well as setting short-term goals for students and meeting with parents in Student Support Group meetings. Shaun McClare and I have the privilege of attending these meetings and reviewing student goals and it always gives me pleasure to recognise the incredible work of our staff in caring for the academic and emotional growth of every individual student. There is so much to celebrate this year for every single student and I want to thank our teachers and support staff for their incredible professionalism, warmth and care as they guide each young person through their final learning goals this year.

Inspiring kindness

In the past I have spoken about the importance of 'intrinsic values' where we see kindness and respect modelled automatically and not just when we are being watched. Once again I am so proud to share an example with you of a Kalinda student Scarlett in Grade 4 who has demonstrated this in a very special and generous act. I hope you will head to the Student Achievement page to read all about her recent act of kindness.

Take care, you matter a lot to me.
