Student Voice (regarding our arborist work)

Over the past fortnight, our school has had some arborist work completed as a part of the Department’s Safe Tree Program. As depicted, the program has supported our school to assess, manage (reduce) and, if needed, remove high-risk trees on our school grounds.

Related to that work, Year 4 students Lily, Asha, and Ameya met with me regarding their love of trees. The girls, who were acting on behalf a group of their peers, presented persuasive writing pieces aimed at raising awareness of the importance of trees in our environment.  Following some passionate discussion about saving trees, I shared with the girls the Department’s Agricultural Audit and Tree Management Plan.  We went through the plan, paying particular attention to their favourite trees and gained a collective understanding as to why some trees were of greater risk than others and the responsibility the Department has to reduce associated risks.

At the conclusion of the meeting, I acknowledged that communication regarding the arborist work could have gone out prior, which would have helped their understanding and prevented any unnecessary ill feelings towards the project.  Regardless, it was a wonderful demonstration of the level of comfort, confidence, and capacity our students have to stand up for things that matter to them the most.

Thank You CHAPS

With the Colour Run scheduled for tomorrow, I would like to thank and acknowledge our school’s parents’ association CHAPS.  As celebrated last night at School Council, this year CHAPS has provided the school with community events, enhanced communication pathways, pop-up stalls/bbqs, raffles and delivered much-appreciated fundraising expected to exceed $35,000.

Well done and thank you to our wonderful volunteers. The school community values your efforts and appreciates the positive climate and sense of community you create with your events (and the kids love the new monkey bars)!
