Mass Resumes at O'Connor

After a hiatus due to COVID 19, Wednesday Mass will return to De La Salle Chapel next Wednesday, June 23. Mass will be on a smaller scale to cater for COVID 19 social distancing protocols. 7.1 and 7.2 will be the classes that attend this Mass. At this stage  Mass is not open to other parishioners. We are very thankful to the Clergy at the Cathedral Parish to provide Mass for our students in a very busy time.

Founders Day

On the last day of term, July 3, O'Connor will celebrate Founders Day. This is a day our students look forward to each year. On this day we remember the De La Salle Brothers and Ursuline Sisters who have contributed to the education of students all over the world including those attending De La Salle College Armidale, St Ursula's College and O'Connor Catholic College. We look at the impact of St Angela Merici (founder of the Ursulines) and St John Baptist de La Salle. We explore the origins of O'Connor and how we are a living part of a tradition and a rich history..

This year will be different from past years due to the need for social distancing. There will be activities concerning our heritage in all lessons plus an afternoon of concerts on multiple stages named "Founders Fest". Students have been preparing acts for the festival to display the variety of talents O'Connor students possess. It is a mufti day and a gold coin donation will be donated to Kids Helpline, a Lasallian run charitable service.

Vinnies Winter Appeal

Thanks to all those families that donated to Vinnies COVID-19 Winter Appeal. There is a significant donation of warm clothes and blankets to be taken to Vinnies to be distributed to those who are in need. The baskets are still in the front foyer of the College if you still wish to donate.

Students raised over $800 to donate to Vinnies for the appeal. Many thanks to our awesome Lasallian Youth Ministers and Nick our Music Minister for organising a great virtual prayer service, complete with awesome music.

Refugee Week

This week is Refugee Week. It is Australia’s peak annual activity to raise awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Originally celebrated in 1986, Refugee Week coincides with World Refugee Day which is on June 20.

Catholic Missions supports the plight of refugees. Catholic Mission’s advocacy programs are working to prevent children from being detained in locked detention facilities. This work is carried out by the End Child Detention Coalition (ECDC) which was founded by Catholic Mission in 2012. If you would like to know more about World Refugee Day, please check out this United Nations Website.

Lord, No one is a stranger to you and no one is ever far from your loving care. In your kindness watch over refugees and asylum seekers, those separated from their loved ones, those who are lost, and those who have been exiled from their homes. Bring them safely to the place where they long to be, and help us always to show your kindness to strangers and those in need.
