What's Happening

HARMONY WEEK-

beg. 16 MARCH

Murrumbeena Primary School will be celebrating our cultural diversity during Harmony Week by the students sharing artefacts from their cultural background.

We would like the students to bring an item with a short explanation of why it is important or valued in their culture. They will share the item and information with their class during the week.

The Menorah is used by Jewish families.

Some families celebrate Holi.

We encourage families to make some time to have a conversation about what they could bring to class and help your child to organise bringing the item to school.

 Happy Harmony Day!

CLASSROOM UNIT SHARES

At the end of every unit of inquiry, we open our classrooms for parents to come and share in their child’s learning journey.

Unit shares are an informal opportunity for you to visit your child’s classroom and to engage in what your child and their peers have been learning. This may include learning in maths, literacy, units of inquiry, specialist classes or personal and social skills.

Unit shares provide an opportunity for students to develop confidence and communication skills, while reflecting on and celebrating their learning.

In order to cater for as many parents as possible, we are alternating between mornings and afternoons, and change the day of unit shares throughout the year.

The first unit shares for 2020 will take place towards the end of term 1.

Level teams will communicate through Compass, the time and date of your child’s unit shares.

We look forward to you visiting.

PREP SOCIAL EVENT

On Friday, the Grade 1 parents hosted drinks for the prep families in the stunning surroundings of the kitchen garden.

It was great to warmly welcome the 50+ prep parents, the vast majority who are new to the school. A selection of drinks were served and a vast and plentiful selection of cheeses and nibbles were on offer. The event was a success and it was great getting to know the new families.

A few thank yous are in order, as without all the donations and hard work this event wouldn't have been a success.

Thank you to the Carnegie IGA who donated a significant amount of food to this event; in excess of $150 of goods.

Thank you to the Grade 1 parents who donated food and cash.

Thank you to Lynne Foster, and Lynne and Helen in the office for their support.

And finally, thank you to those who volunteered their time to make this happen, a big thank you to Anne, Naomi, Lauren, Chelsea, David, Bruce, Sally, Danielle, Lucy and Philippa.

  • Changed family circumstances: such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing at the school in 2020
