From The Principal

PREP WELCOME EVENING

Thank you to all families who were able to come and meet other Prep families last Friday night at the SAKG garden area.

It was a little cool, but I am sure everyone enjoyed the evening. Thanks to the wonderful Grade 1 parents who made donations to assist with the catering, and to the team who set up and packed up at the end!

Thanks to Philippa, Lucy, Naomi, David, Anne, Bruce, Lauren and Chelsea, who made this a special night. We can’t thank them enough for keeping this school social night tradition going.

SCHOOL PICNIC

Please don’t forget our school annual welcome picnic on Friday March 13, 5:30pm -7:30pm. The students will be demonstrating what they have learnt in the two weeks leading up to this, with some fitness/dance sessions with Alli Watts who runs 'Let’s Get Moving'.  We hope you are able to join us on the night.

SAKG

We welcome a new member of staff, Mrs Anna Malone, to our SAKG program. She will be managing our very large garden area that is used to provide food for the kitchen program.

We would love to hear from more Year 3 and 4 families, in particular, who would be willing to sign up for helping in the garden.

CLASS REPRESENTATIVES

There are still a number of classes without class reps. :

Prep L, Prep T, Prep W, 1R, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4H, 5A, 5C 5P, 6D

If you are interested in becoming a class representative, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

PARKING

Unfortunately, there have already been concerns raised about the safety of students at drop off and pick up times, particularly at the front of the school and parents using the staff carpark. It is extremely dangerous for parents to double park and ask children to walk between cars to jump in, and the car park is out of bounds for all students, including those attending before and after school care.

Firstly, we ask that parents do not double park at all. It is illegal, causes huge frustration to other drivers and puts students at risk.

We also ask for parents to set an example by walking that extra 20-30m and cross at the school crossing.

The parking officer attends regularly and incorrect practices can end up being a costly lesson.

Please also adhere to speed restrictions and correct use of the school crossings for the safety of our children.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Our Student Leadership Program involves the following components:

-School captains, who assist with a range of school events such as assemblies, school tours, school photos, visitors etc.

-Sport/House and wellbeing captains, who predominately lead sporting events throughout the school, such as the lunchtime sports programs and house sports.

-Environmental captains, who, with their team, will lead, develop and implement environmental initiatives throughout our school and the wider community.

-Global citizenship captains, who, with their team, will promote Japanese throughout the school, including at assembly, as well as acknowledging other cultural days across our school calendar.

-Media captains, who will be responsible for writing articles for our newsletter and assist in the IRC.

-Arts captains, who will lead a team to promote performing arts and assist with displays around the school.

We also have a student representative council,  who will lead, develop and implement a variety of initiatives throughout our school, with a particular focus on how student voice can be incorporated to enhance our school.

Each class from Grades 1-6 selects 2 children who will represent them at the SRC meetings.

At the next assembly we will be presenting badges for students who have been selected in these roles.
