Reading before you sleep -  Megan DaleyCHALLENGE

In the holidays turn off all screens an hour before sleep, spend at leaset 30 minutes reading before bed and feel the benefits for yourself and your family.

Megan Daley author of "Raising Readers", a text which I would highly recommend for parents and teachers alike.

Here is an excerpt from contributor Georgina Manning, director of Wellbeing for Kids. "Reading before we sleep has also become a lost art. The increase in screen time before bed is becoming and epidemic that is having catastrophic effects on the brain. As children's brains are growing , they particularly need time each day to rest and just play. They also need wind-down activities every night to help them to drift off into a deep and nourishing sleep. Reading is one of the most powerful activities we can do for our brains before sleep."

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN - 5 days left

The Woolworths' "Earn and Learn" Promotion continues until 25 June, 2019.   Boxes have been placed at both East and West Woolworths Supermarkets.  Stickers are issued with purchases from the supermarkets and you can either deposit your stickers in the box or send them to school.  You are encouraged to enlist the aid of family, friends and neighbours in the collection of stickers.

In 2017 our total was 45 000 stickers so far this year we are up to 31 000 stickers. Every few days I visit the stores and take large bunches of stickers out of the boxes and bring them to school to be stuck on by the students. When I go back the boxes are full again.

Thankyou all for the marvellous support shown to our school and please extend the thanks to anyone you know who is contributing stickers.

Once again...

The response to this initiative so far has been AMAZING.  A huge "thank you" to all who have sent in their stickers or placed them in the boxes at the two Woolworths stores.  Please keep up the amazing work. Thank you to all of the helpers who come into the Library and "stick" the stickers onto our sheets.
