Illuminate NextGen Challenge

Last week the Year 9 SEAL group attended Deakin University to complete the Illuminate NextGen Challenge with two other schools. Students were asked to create a new education technology product in groups which involved creating a business plan, assessing financials, marketing strategies and pitching the idea to a panel of judges. All the students performed very well and were great in presenting their ideas and should be proud of what they have achieved throughout the week.

Congratulations to Blake Ceola, Brian Clarke, Kelly Ng, Andrew Tao, Kieana Thai and Jacob Van Winckel on winning the Best Marketing Strategy out of all the groups involved!

Year 7 Discovery

In Discovery over the last two weeks, students in 7J have been working on common community issues and what steps the students could take to minimise the concerns.

Some of the issues raised included:

  • social media education,
  • recycling efforts at DSC,
  • charging stations at school and
  • alcohol/smoking consumption and abuse directed towards children in sport by adults.

Congratulations to all 7J students for the effort that they showed during this unit.

Become a Peer Leader for 2020

Attention all Year 8 students interested in becoming a Peer Leader next year.

Peer Support is one of the leadership opportunities in the College. Peer Leaders play a vital role in helping Year 7 students settle into our community at Doncaster Secondary College.

One major component of being a Peer Leader is to work with a 2020 Year 7 class to support and empower relationships between leaders and students that will assist the Year 7 students to understand and thrive as part of the DSC community.

Past Peer Leaders have enjoyed the experience, with some of their highlights being attending the Year 7 camp, getting to know the Year 7s and participating in some fun and challenging training! Peer Support Leaders are provided with a one-day training program in Term 4 to prepare them as Peer Leaders for the Year 7 Orientation Day. Ongoing training, support and evaluation will continue throughout 2020.

Peer Leaders need to be able to demonstrate organisational skills, initiative, interest and care for younger students and a commitment to following school rules and being a positive role model.

Applications need to be handed into the Middle School Office before Wednesday, 21 August 2019.
