Year 9 English Course Options

Students entering Year 9 can now choose from four different English themes!

Each of the four English options will support learners to achieve the key concepts and skills of Year 9 English and, similar assessment tasks will take place in each of the courses. The novels, film, articles and short stories studied, as well as the themes and ideas that are discussed, will differ in each of the courses. Students are encouraged to select the course option that most appeals to their interest.

The course options include:

  • Outsiders
  • Future Worlds
  • The Power of One
  • Whose Reality?

Descriptions of each of these course options can be found in the Middle School Handbook.

Choosing a Year 10 English subject

How do I help my Year 10 student choose the right English subject for Year 11?

Year 7 English

For Year 7 English, students were asked to complete a variety of activities relating to the study of the novel 'Holes'. One activity asked students to choose a setting in the novel and write a vivid description of it that will help someone to visualise it. I thought Sofia F (7F) did such a wonderful job!

CAMP GREEN LAKE

Camp green lake, bare, dry, dusty. Water, a dream that you can barely remember. A beautiful lake, with water lapping and feeding the luscious plants a memory, that has disappeared.

An abandoned boat, sitting in the pit of what used to be a lake. The little boat, rusting away, the only trace of the tragic events that took place years ago. The sun glaring down, shade a thing of the past.

Sunflower seeds scattered on the ground, tyre marks showing friendship, what one person will do for another.

Orange dirt, clay as tough as rocks. Boys digging all day, hungry, tired and thirsty.

Close but so far, a thumb in the distance holding many unanswered questions.

Falling apart, dorms holding clothes in need of washing.

The ground, hardly distinguishable more holes than walking space.

A wasteland, wasting away no water, dry, horrible.
