Sustainability Corner

RPS SUSTAINABILITY

Welcome all to the Sustainability Corner, a new section of the fortnightly RPS newsletter.

We pay our respect to the Boon Wurrung, the Indigenous Australians of the Kulin Nations, the original custodians of the land where Ripponlea Primary School is located.

As the great Paul Kelly simply muses, “from little things big things grow”.

As our kids will be the custodians of the planet we need to promote sustainable behaviour and environmental care in them. And we need to lead by example.

Therefore, from 2020, sustainability will become a core focus of the Ripponlea Primary School community. It will be the beating heart of our school culture, in the curriculum, across all RPS operations and management, and throughout connections and partnerships we form in our local community.

We can achieve this through a shared commitment to education and by integrating sustainable best practice that empowers our students and broader community for change. It will involve a commitment from the entire school community, including from leadership, teachers, parents and students.

A dedicated group of parents are working to support RPS to become more sustainable and to encourage these changes in our everyday lives. Our aim is to inspire a spirit of collaboration and collective ownership in our school and broader community. The RPS community have initiated many remarkable environmental focused projects throughout the years and we intend to continue this momentum.

We recognise that community participation is critical to collectively shift towards an environmentally sustainable school and an environmentally sustainable society. We will use this forum as a conduit to support and engage with you all on this journey. We will share information and useful resources, test ideas and various initiatives that we will be looking at implementing, and help support changes to create sustainable patterns of living. So please watch this space!
