CLASSROOM READING HELPERS COURSE F-2

Join Natalie Rose, our school Principal, as she takes you through some important literacy learning on helping young readers.

We are seeking parent volunteers who hold or are willing to apply for a working with children’s check to help support our daily reading program from Foundation to Year 2. Volunteering can be on a daily, weekly, fortnightly or even monthly basis. Whatever time you can spare will help our classes.

We are offering two sessions, but you only need to attend one session:

- Monday 16th March at 9am

- Friday 20th March at 2pm

Registration to this course is never too late! Just send an email to ripponlea.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au and mention which session you would like to attend.

ACCIDENT & AMBULANCE INSURANCE

The Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents/Guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Parents/Guardians can purchase insurance policies from commercial insurers.

PERSONAL PROPERTY

Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include iPods, electronic games, calculators, toys, musical instruments, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. The Department of Education does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

We currently do have a missing trumpet last seen in the music room and is in a grey/blue backpack.

The backpack is a similar shape to a trumpet case. If anyone has seen it please contact the school office on 9527 5728.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES

Over the course of the year, our students will participate in a range of safety procedures in case of emergencies. These will include lock downs and evacuations on-site and off-site. An alert will be sent on COMPASS after each drill. Our evacuation sites include the synthetic turf oval, basketball court, Green Meadows and Caulfield Grammar.

CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities, for students in Foundation to Year 6.  If you hold a valid means-tested concession card (e.g. Health Care Card) or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. Application forms are available from the Office. In 2020, every Foundation government school student who is a recipient of CSEF automatically qualifies to receive a uniform package, provided through State Schools' Relief. If you are eligible please come and speak to Mrs. Rose about this application.

UNDERSTANDING COMMON SIGNAGE AROUND SCHOOL AREAS

Signage within school areas is designed with the safety of students and caregivers in mind. Due to the large number of both road and pedestrian traffic at peak times (drop off/pick up), an understanding of traffic signage plays an important role in ensuring every student arrives and departs safely.

Common signage found in school areas includes:

  • No Parking
  • Within these areas, drivers are permitted to stop vehicles for up to two minutes if they are picking up or dropping off passengers and stay within three metres of the vehicle.
  • Kiss and Go
  • Kiss and Go signage does not hold legislative value, but rather exists to support and highlight No Parking areas.
  • No Stopping
  • Drivers are not permitted to stop within No Stopping areas for any period of time. This signage is installed to keep high risk areas such as intersections and congestion points clear of vehicles to minimise the risk of accidents and injury.

OTHER RELEVANT ROAD RULES (UNSIGNED)

  • Double Parking  This includes waiting for a legal parking space to become available.
  •  Obstructing access to and from a footpath/driveway
  • Stopping a vehicle in a manner which obstructs vehicle or pedestrian traffic via footpaths or driveways.

While these Road Rules are not supported by signage, they remain legally valid.

Council Traffic Safety Officers routinely patrol school areas to ensure vehicles are compliant with the Road Rules for the safety of all road users. Infringements of up to $165 may be issued against offending vehicles.

We appreciate that parking around schools at peak times is limited and this may lead to congestion. However, we hope that by better understanding the signed restrictions, drivers are able to drop off and collect students both safely and legally.
